I honestly hate giving bad reviews. However, I have travelled all over the world and have never seen a beach so dirty in my life. There are garbage everywhere, the smell of fish is everywhere, there's ZERO infra structure for tourists. There are electric wires hanging on the side of the streets, ZERO good restaurants (you have to rely on... More

We commuted to and from Weligama to surf whilst basing ourselves in Mirissa. We had considered spending a few nights here but on seeing it decided not to! The beach and water are not nearly as nice as Mirissa but the beach IS more spacious and less crammed with tourists, so is ok to hang out on whilst you enjoy... More

Rolling shore breaks and heavier breaks out the back with sandy bottom makes for the perfect beach for all skill levels. We spent 3 or so weeks parked at Weligama in the off-season and were granted with some pretty good weather and nobody around... I can only imagine it would be more crowded in season. We stayed beachfront and it... More

We went for a trip to Weligama during our stay in Midigama. On one hand they have a nice beach with a beach break for beginner surfers. Plenty of surf schools on the beach. Plenty of people in the water. However in my opinion the city itself is dirty, restaurants are not that great. Really nothing impressive. I am happy... More

Damith Kumara took us several times around Weligama area. We are a couple with a ten year old daughter from Switzerland and used gratefully his services. His driving is very defensive and safe within the quite vivid Sri Lankan traffic. He is very reliable in keeping appointments. You can contact him under: +94 (77) 780 7592 damith.kumara2012@gmail.com Kind regards Brigitte,... More

Even if you are not a surfer, still you should visit this beach, where waves do cross slowly the underwater dunes and rush towards the coast. It is very relaxing just to sit on the beach and hold your sight on the ocean and saite until the sunset. But seriously! The locals should start to clean their rubbish. It will... More

Compated to other beaches (Mirissa, Unawatuna, Hikaduwa) Weligama is in my oponion the best possible option if you are looking for a nice beach, reasonable prices for food and accomodation and good wawes for surfing for beginners. First, we had a plan to stay on 4 different beaches, starting with Mirissa. Our primary goal was to relax, eat some good... More

I have surfed for 20 years, I have 3 boys all very confident in the water and keen to develop their surfing following multiple trips to Bali and Hikkaduwa, so this should have been a great spot for a family break and we all packed our surfboards. The reality was a chaotic, rude and disappointing line up. Tens of surf... More
