Fishing vessels going out and coming back all day long.
We were there for the Fishermen Festival and the small town became the place to be for all of Friesland. Harlingen knows how to open their arms to throwing one heck of a party.

The port is easy to access for work if attending any of the many Dutch fishing vessels based thier. Usual good shore side support from several shore based maintenance companies. About a one hour drive from Schiphol.
Currently - and for some more years likely - they are building a replica of the 'explorer' Willem Barentsz used while trying to discover a trade route 'By the North' (sailing to East India while sailing the seas north of Russia).

Much to see and do. You can walk or take a bike ride. Lots of cafés to sit and watch the activity. Boats seem to be going in and out at all times...ferries, sailing ships, cruisers...nice to view. Very picturesque. We sent all afternoon there...More
