If you loved and read the novels and stories of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, this is the place where it all began, his house. Located in his hometown Aracataca, this place and its surroundings will make you feel in one of his stories.

The Museum is Garcia Marquez' Grandparents' house (actually a replica, the original burnt down). He lived there as a small child. It is the model for the Buendias' house in the book. Fascinating if you have read the book. Getting to Aracataca from Santa Marta...More

Something about this museum is very compelling and beautiful even though it is somewhat quaint. It's worth a short bus ride to Aracataca from a neighboring city to spend an hour or so here.

My wife and I recently visited Aracataca and found it to be a surreal experience. The whole town appears to be suspended in time as if contained in a bubble, especially because of the late July heat. having read most of Gabo's works, lends to...More

If you are a Gabriel Garcia Marquez fan, you will find that Aracataca and this house still keep that magic realism.

very well kept building with properly chosen texts from Gabo´s writings, and nice gardens, but miniature rooms make the renovated house look a fake. A large family like Gabo´s could not fit in it. Nonetheless, it is a must when in Aracatata.
