A real surprise. Very well-hidden and simply delightful, a garden full of invention and charm. It is almost a maze - and quite tricky to follow the paths - but each corner reveals new and intriguing compositions, many based on historical local gardening. In May the whole spectacle is breathtaking.

It's amazing how much a gardener with vision can achieve in a relatively short space of time. When the owner, M. de Quillacq, arrived in 1990 there was a single tree. Today the 1.5 hectares on the gently sloping hillside below the hilltop town of Cassel is divided up into a series of "rooms", each different in character but forming... More

Worth the steep walk up on a clear which we had to sea the great views from this lovely park. Viewing spots have directional arrows to places some you can see and some you cant.

Several reviewers - including myself - have walked up Mount Cassel and enjoyed the beautiful view. Indeed, a - typical for French Flanders - café-restaurant (named Kasteelhof) is located close to the hilltop, at 8, rue St. Nicolas. But that's Mount Cassel - not Jardin du Mont des Recollets. In fact, the "true" Jardin du Mont des Récollets (Wouwenberghof in... More

We decided to visit this spot as we had recently read the obituary of Col. Julian Fane who had been ordered in April 1940 to hold this hilltop to enable the British Army to escape from Dunkirk. We now understand why this hill top town was so important as the views all round are incredible. The Roman road plan is... More

This was an interesting park within easy reach of the town square. a few statues to walk and admire as well as the windmill ( we did not try this one as a party of young kids were round it). Good views of the surrounding countryside too

.....but with some climbing up the hill before you can grab this award! There is an informative table at the look-out site; if you're lucky to have clear weather, you may see as far as Ypres, Dunkerques, Lille, ... to name a few. The hilltop also features a statute of Maréchal Foch who directed the French army from this site... More

This year, we got the view. Well, almost. The four kingdoms required a bit of imagination, but at least we could see the wildmill from the car park. At present, the demolition of the large square eyesore to the east end detracts somewhat, but there were surveyers working, and I presume that in the next few months the tidy-up will... More

Being regular travellers to Northern France we have got wise to the fact that places are not open all the time like they are in the UK. So when we actually found through research a garden that was actually open when we were there. There were great whoops of joy at the discovery of this garden. On the website it... More

Despite wet and cold weather, the view was great-not sure we could see the fabled five kingdoms from here but the scenery was worth seeing. Some of the outlook posts gave information on the towns and cities (visible and not visible!) in different directions. Marshall Foch statue most impressive. Also an old windmill and a bulb garden (although no flowers... More
