Magnificent building, included in the World Heritage List, rebuilt in the 18th century due to a series of earthquakes that struck the city in the late 16th and 17th centuries. Rich in details, has a privileged location, which allows an interesting view of the town. Make sure to try the gelati manufactured by Don Giorgino for over 60 years now,... More

The best church in Modica and there are several amazing churches. What a view. It is worth the slightly sketchy route up the hill.

A visit to the Chiesa di San Giorgio asks for a good physical condition: plenty of stairs, climbing high above the city of Modica itself. It's a splendid building, even though so many similar churches can be found all over the island. Enjoy the view over Modica from here, or climb further to the panorama at the San Giovanni Evangelista.

Really spectacular, an amazing cathedral with a fantastic stairway. True baroque art. Not to be missed.

Another beautiful church and baroque masterpiece designed by architect Rosario Gagliardi (same as the Duomo of San Giorgio in Ragusa Ibla), located in the center of the city and that links its upper part to its lower part while providing a stunning view of Modica. The moment we visited there was a wedding ceremony going on. We could not help... More

Like many others in town, this is a beautiful baroque church rebuilt after the earthquake 300 years ago. It is a very large church with a majestic staircase surrounded by small gardens. The facade is original and beautiful. The inside is larger than expected with many chapel with paintings of several periods. The ceiling is rather bare.

all the churches in modica are beautiful in their way, you need to be determined as there are many steps to get to it.

From the outside, it doesn't seem very big until you enter. Much bigger than it appears and overly ornate. Having minored in Art History, I thoroughly enjoyed the many wonderful oil paintings on the side altars/chapels. I was kind of surprised that the ceiling was relatively bare as compared to other Duomos.

The best part is the hike to get there. The large pompous staircase, the lush bougainvillee, the flat space in front of the church where children play ball.

Our room overlooked this from the other side of the hill. It was stunning by day & even more so by night. No matter where you look at it from it looks fantastic. Take a tour round the inside & it is just as marvellous. We didnt bother with the trip up tower as we were continuing our walk up... More
