Great tour and wine tasting, fantastic guide
Aug 2020 • Family
We booked a tour and wine tasting after lunch in the restaurant. We had a fantastic lunch and it’s lovely views and great service.

The tour and wine tasting lasted ver 90 mins and we were really well liked after by our guide who spoke perfect English and was able to switch between her native Italian with some clients and us. We were 8 in the group. All worked Covid secure and sensible precautions unlike others have mentioned.

The Abbey is an amazing place, well worth a visit in its own but why wouldn’t you eat here as well!!

Oh dear!

Oh dear!

These days eating out involves more than a financial Investment - it’s also a risk assessment of previously unimaginable health concerns. That’s why eating in a place we’ve known and loved for years should have been a safe bet on both fronts. Sadly, this was not our recent experience, so much so that we feel compelled to post an adverse review by way of warming to others.
Let’s start with the food which was, in a word, disappointing. Lamb that had been overcooked perhaps a day or two earlier and smothered in some tasteless gloop, pork that was dry and tasteless, drizzled with what looked like the mint sauce the menu had described as part of the lamb dish ! And to top it off, a cheesecake that tasted of nothing other than gelatine. All this from a restaurant adjacent to a cookery school.
Enough said.

What was most disconcerting however was the large and loud group of 6/7 people who sauntered in late, without masks making no effort to adhere to local COVID measures, nor were they asked to. It’s one thing for guests to behave irresponsibly and without respect for health and safety measures but it’s another for the proprietors to allow this.

We left as soon as we could, feeling unsafe and dissatisfied for the first time in our 2020 visit to Tuscany. That said, there’s a bigger issue here and please owners, address it without delay. Whatever about the subpar food, you cannot let health regulations slip

Still remains my favourite restaurant in Toscana
Jul 2020
Back for the third time as it remains my favourite restaurant in Toscana.
The combination of a nice menu with regional ingredients but a modern twist, great wines, good service and a fantastic view just make the package.
As I have some dietary restrictions I ordered à la carte and my boyfriend the tasting menu. Every dish was delicious.
We just enjoy every time we visit, that's why I love coming back every time I am in the region.
See you next time!

Another lovely garden worth seeing besides the visit to the wine cellar!
Oct 2019
This garden is beautifully cared for and a joy to wander through. We were a group on a guided tour. Do book ahead. There is a lot to see In the villa as well as a visit to the wine cellars. They have wines aging in the library dating back over 40 years. We tasted two vintages and got to appreciate the differences. It was a thrill to wander down in the dark moody cellar tunnels and feel the history first hand.

Enjoyable but personally prefer less commercial
Oct 2019 • Friends
We attended a cooking course, which included lunch, while on a week long visit to Gaiole. It was enjoyable but appeared to be targeted to visitors from the US - which is great for them and for business and they seem to rely heavily on some ancient ties to the Medici family which obviously works for them - but was a bit too commercial for my liking. We did another ‘cooking course’ during our week long trip and was far more authentic and enjoyable and had numerous superior meals and wine tasting experiences.

Fun Private Wine Tasting and Tour
Apr 2019
I came here with a group of 8 people for a private tour and we all had such a good time. The tour was great -- the old monastery and the grounds were beautiful and I loved learning about the history.

We had tried four different types of wine, plus grappas if we were curious. The tasting also included a spread of salami, cheese and olive oil. Our guide opened all the bottles in front of us, gave us an introduction of the different types, and left us to enjoy everything. My only complaint.... too much wine!

Just remember to leave time to stop by their store at the bottom of the hill after your visit.

Amazing Cooking Class!
Jun 2019 • Couples
One of our trip highlights! Spend hours immersing yourself under the care of an authentic, charming and wise Italian chef! She will teach you things you can read about but she brings it all to life in the Badia kitchen.

Then you have a break to eat some appetizers and it all ends with you eating your Tuscany creations in a beautiful dining room with the Badia’s own grown and branded wines and the biscotti you rolled out for dessert!

You walk away full, happy, with cooking knowledge passed down by an expert, a recipe pamphlet and a Badia apron!

Would cozy up to her marble cooking table again in a heartbeat!!

Welcome home
Jun 2019 • Couples
After a 15 year abscence we went back to our honeymoon destination, and we were in love all over! We had a wonderful lunch, at a table for two with the most beautiful view. We had the onions stuffed with dearliver patee, and Mozzarello stuffed with Panzanella as starters, followed by Ravioli with fresh Porcini as well as Risotto with pigeon breast. Both courses were sublime! Can't wait to return in 2034...

Birthday celebration to remember!
Jun 2019 • Friends
Our group of 7 friends had a delightful dinner in this old Abbey on top of the mountain, with a modern ristorante. The asparagus flan was memorable and when they found out it was my birthday, I had a candle in my warm chocolate cake.
