This church is miraculously still intact since construction in 1180. I believe it is the oldest surviving wooden church in the world. Park at the visitors center and pay admission (it's worth the price to preserve such historical treasures!) before walking up to the church....More

Borgund is one of the most impressive stavekirke of Norway. It is not big, but the architecture and the sculpture of the wood are really beautiful. There is a small "museum" at the center where you can buy tickets (2 min walk from the church)....More

This is a must see with Jon as a guide. Very informative and a great lunch at the adjacent cafe and shop. If stave churches are your thing don't miss this one.

We only viewed the church from the outside, but we wanted to see one stave church while in Norway so this fit the bill. We then did the walk/hike that leads from the church to the old king's road which was nice.

Begin in the modern visitor centre on the river side of the road, to get your ticket. Get a pamphlet & ask if there is a guide at the Church. We had Bjorn & he was excellent. Very clear, touch of humour & made it...More
