Just as i remembered 25 years ago
Sep 2021
Drove up from Lindos to the beautiful Old Town in Rhodes, it must be about 25 years since i was last here, it was just as beautiful as i remembered it. My partner has never been so was curious as to what the fuss was about, he soon saw..... He loved it!
We spend a lovely morning/early Afternoon here in September taking photos of cobbled streets the walls and just about anything and everything medieval enjoying the ambiance of it all. It is all pedestrian streets so no hustle and bustle of cars around , go off and explore the winding roads and speak to the locals its pure joy.
Gets fairly busy when the cruise ships come in around lunchtime.

Magical City

Imagine being able to walk around a medieval city… oh! You can in Rhodes. I love this island. I’m a female traveling on her own and I felt so safe, no matter what time of day or night.

Fabulous

A couple of streets back from the tourist (and tat) shops just go wandering "off piste" around the little alleys where the locals live. You will not get lost as you are contained within the walls. Also, a full walk around the moat is highly recommended. We had the place to ourselves while the town itself was packed out on a busy sailing regatta weekend.

Beautiful old city
Oct 2021 • Couples
Beautiful old medieval walled city. Very well preserved and presented and very photogenic. Cobble roads and stone walls like it would have been 100s of years ago.
This would be a worthy film set for Game of Thrones.
Definitely worth a few hour wandering.

Rhodes Walled City
Oct 2021
Very large and well preserved walled and (dry) moated city. I last visited around 25 years ago when most commercialism was was in the Liberty Gate to Socrates Square area and the remainder was mass of narrow streets and passages. Now all the northern half is commercial. Full of restaurants and shops but press on the southern half to get the real feel for the old city. Predominantly narrow streets and zig zag passages with only occasional cafes. Look out for Top Sabor, a small family run corner cafe with a great welcome.

Large area with lots to choose from
Oct 2021 • Couples
The old town is beautiful, though crowded. The vendors and restaurant staff are aggressive, which can get tiresome fast.
There are tons of shops, restaurants and Café’s.

Do your research before you go to stores/cafes/restaurants, for there are scammers around.

A jewel from every corner and every angle

There are not many places like this, still standing tall and beautiful. It is truly a jewel, worth visiting at any time of the year.
From the guarding walls to the cobbled stones, to the age old houses, to the small restaurants and shops, the museums, churches and squares, this old town is a very enjoyable experience.
