1,588 reviews
If you have time for just one side trip from Rome, make it Tuscany. Leave the transportation and logistics to someone else on this guided exploration of the Val d’Orcia region. You can simply relax and enjoy a walking tour of Montepulciano, a stop at Sant’Antimo Abbey, along with free time to stroll and shop in UNESCO-listed Pienza. Fuel up with an included 3-course lunch and wine tasting.

I've been to Montalcino 4 times and visited at least 25 wineries there. This was the first visit to Altesino. Booked a tour prior to leaving the USA (via their website). Immediate response. They weren't open the day we wanted to visit but they opened for a tour for us. Spoke English. Above average wines and a good value.

Without doubt excellent wines - without tasting It was the most disappointing visit to a world -class winery in my Wine Consultant/ Journalist capacity. The guide was willing but obviously not in a position to even try to generate some flexibility within her organization after knowing my profession ( Business Card ). Even though I had no appointment- but a Busload of Non- Wine Experts were treated nicely with ham and cheese and a tasting - not a single glass of wine was offered to me and my wife. Finally I bought a Magnum of Altesino Montosoli and a Vin Santo -willingly sold - and left in question about the treatment of a serious expert considering his business influence and the wineries business model with regard to customers . This winery is well-know in the world of wines and especially Brunello. Not just part of a “Tuscany experience” it specifically is about the Brunello. And their olive oil is great. This was our second trip. Buy some wine as the prices are great compared to back in the states. Reservations are appreciated.

Our first full day in Tuscany and we stopped by Altesino for a wine tasting. Despite not having a reservation, they made room to give us a wine tasting and overview of the winery. $25/person with a good range of Tuscan wines. Spacious views of the surrounding countryside and vineyard. Great start to a week of wine tasting in Tuscany.
