Roughly half way between Broadstairs and Ramsgate you come to Dumpton Gap. We had walked from Broadstairs along the beach but by the time we got to the gap the tide was coming in and so we had to go above the beach to finish our walk to Ramsgate. We were sad not to be able to continue as it looked a lovely sandy beach. At the bottom of the slope as we headed upwards there was a café which looked very popular.

I would like to warn people who have never been there like us. Be careful with the high tide!!! It does come in quickly, and when you realise it could be too late for you to go back! We were enjoying the long beach walk with our dogs. Although we read about the high tide, knew what time the high tide was, we just carried on walking towards Ramsgate as the tide was still low. Then we noticed that the tide was coming in closer so decided to go back. However, on the way back, some parts were already under the sea water, knee high hence we had to carry our dogs in our arms. If we were 10 mins late to return, we couldn’t carry our dogs and could have been completely cut off! It could have been worse 😱 We wish there were some warning signs on the beach to remind people about the high tide. We didn’t see any signs! The beach was a long sandy natural unspoiled beach. There were many people with dogs. We really enjoyed our walk with our dogs, and so they did.

Being tidal the beach is very clean. it is dog friendly, but do check the tide ties before you set off. there is a concrete walkway if you get there a the wrong time but it is not the same as walking on the beach. You can walk up to Ramsgate in one direction and Broadstairs in the other. Car parking fee on the road at the top. There is a seasonal cafe and toilets. It is a great walk for the dog as she can go off the lead and meet dozens of other dogs. Often go for a paddle even in winter (in wellies obviously!)

The beach is very rocky and has algae everywhere. But is famous for it white walls cliffs and to be very hot during the summer. Lots os people make this place their vacation trip. It worth the trip!
