Credit goes to Rochester for making the castle the showpiece it is . Not for the faint hearted as there are 200 steps to climb but only if you want to. Plenty of grass to sit and have a picnic. Great views of the Medway from the top of the keep. Will come again at some time. Oh and there's... More

This is a nice break from the polished renewed castles you visit around London. It shows what the castle is like as it aged through the centuries. It is basically a shell and you have to use your imagination to see the way it would have been. It is roughly an hour to the East of London, nice place to... More

Nice Castle ,very historical with information boards & was interesting. Long climb to the top and when we went it was a sunny day & the views at the top were great. Plenty of resting areas on the way up you dont have to do it in one climb. Castle situated in a park ,there is a kiosk that sells... More

This castle has varied reviews but I loved it. The information was just enough to absorb and get the feel for some of the events and battles that have taken place over the centuries. A word of warning - you cannot purchase an Overseas English Heritage Pass at this site. They accept the passes but don't issue them as the... More

Mmmmh not tooo excited about this one. Decided on a day out to see castle cathedral and town. You can get it all in in about an hour and a half. The town is ok but lacked real ambience. The castle is ok, quirky in its own way and quite the adventure for kids, again it really didn't have any... More

What a beautiful and wonderful piece of history which is well preserved. Despite falling into disrepair with the notices giving information as you walk around it is easy to imagine what it would have been like. I would visit again.

Best on a fair weather day as there is no roof on the castle (although the passageways are covered) and there are great views from the ramparts at the top. There are a number of levels you can traverse with some information boards in strategic locations, although the audio guided tour (small additional charge) gives a lot more info. A... More

Nice place for a picnic, get food and drink before you go as there are no supermarkets on the high street or fast food outlets. Public toilets are very clean and free .

So many steps, but well worth a visit. The views over Rochester, The Medway and surrounding countryside are worth the knee pain!
