Overview
More
The Falls of Shin is such a pleasing place to relax and watch salmon leaping from the dynamic waterfall. The Falls of Shin are spectacular in their own right, but the sight of leaping salmon makes them even more special and something not to be missed. Falls of Shin is recognised as being one of the best places worldwide to watch leaping Atlantic Salmon. The fish can be seen anytime between May and November, with the late summer months making this almost guaranteed. Following a fire which saw the former building burn to the ground, the Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust, on behalf of the community were successful with a Stage 1 BIG Lottery application and were invited to make a Stage 2 funding application. The design concept of the building, created by CH Architecture, is loosely based on the image of a fish and is made up of a head, body and tail. Each part forms a distinctive function. We are proud to have a 4* rating on TripAdvisor and another 4* with the Visit Scotland Rating Scheme. Please feel free to leave your own visitor comments! The centre will feature a 60 seat cosy café, a gift shop with local produce stocked, an exhibition and interpretation area, a children’s play area along with an events plaza. This will all fit into the surroundings of the on-site forest and of course the leaping salmon.

Lovely day out with Family, beautiful waterfall. Had a walk around the paths through the woods. Then kids played in the park before sitting in the cafe by the fire for a cuppa

Staff were welcoming and happy to provide anything on their menu at any time, they also were happy to tell us about the recommended short walks. Lunch menu had usual fayre plus some excellent specials. All delicious and reasonably priced too. Thank you!

We called at the Falls of Shin to hopfully see the salmon getting up the falls, but we were unlucky, maybe the tides were not right for the salmon to come up. Still there are nice walks through the woods and if it has rained...More

Lovely place to visit. Weather seasonal so just visited the Falls. Lunch was sandwiches & soup with drinks which were all excellent. Cafe comfy with the woodburner and lovely views throughout. Very friendly staff.
