No grand staircase in this castle. A spiral staircase winds it's way all the way to the top and out onto the roof. Beautiful plaster ceilings made in 1626 by Italian craftsmen feature in many rooms. Lived by the Forbes family until given to the...More

Another excellent National Trust for Scotland Castle. Fabulous pink colouring. It is tour based (no free roaming or self guiding) with tours running approx. every half hour. Tour guides are very knowledgeable and give a great insight into how the castle was used and lived...More

This is such a cute little castle! It’s all by itself on a hilly setting which just adds to its loveliness! We got there too late for the tour but even just seeing the outside is adorable!

My boyfriend and I loved visiting Craigievar Castle. This magnificent fortress is also known as the "Cinderella Castle." The structure allegedly inspired Walt Disney when he created his iconic fairytale castles. The colourful facade, proliferation of turrets and towers, and ornate corbels served as inspiration...More

So I’m no stranger to Craigievar Castle! I’ve been returning to this magical castle for a number of years. I have visited many castles in many countries but nothing has captured my heart like Craigievar, set in beautiful grounds which I might add you can...More

Paid a return visit after several years, very interesting, the guide obviously enjoyed his job and gave us lots of information about the castle. Fab views from the roof.

Dropped in for a visit on the way back home, very glad I did. I didn't do the tour as I had a dog with me but the castle itself was absolutely beautiful. It looked just like a fairytale castle and had amazing views looking...More

Entrance to Craigievar is only by guided tour, and only in small groups, for practical reasons as it's basically one tall, narrow tower. So you may have to hang around for a bit when you arrive before the next tour starts. If you have mobility...More

I can't imagine you would be able to take a dog into the castle. And I'd bet they have to be on a leash in the grounds. But those are just guesses. Check their website and see what it says.

Unfortunately the castle has quite steep stairs up to several levels and to really appreciate it you need visit all floors. I think your brother would feel left out if all he could do was to view the castle from outside.
