We contacted the resort prior to driving 6 hours to check if it was suitable for beginners. Our children (7/9) had only skied once before. The resort assured us it was suitable for beginners.
This is just not true.
To access any blue run (beginners) you have to do a red run. This was a disaster and ruined the trip.
Do not go here if you are a beginner skier.

Wonderful views a sunny day. Great skiing, even for a "almost" new-beginner like me. The mountain has slopes that is suitable for all levels of skiing.

The glacier provides early snow with this apprising variation in pistes. Probably the best glacier skiing all year round in Austria. A lot of national ski racing teams train here in October/November. This can block some of the pistes but provision is made for free skiing in each of the areas.

Hintertux glacier offers great ski area, especially if you are an experienced skier. There are not so many blue pistes but fortunately many slopes are quite wide. The only unpredictable variable is the weather. If it is windy, it can be quite extreme and cold.
Restaurants up there are relatively good, compared to many that we have experienced in other ski areas. Also, there are good services available, for example ski service at the main cabin station where it is possible to get the skis serviced overnight.

Always a good spot for early season skiing. Snow conditions decent, weather was super and not too many people around. Good stuff!

We came to the mountain on a sunny day. Ran into a problem first thing. Their machines to purchase ride tickets would not accept our credit cards for some reason. We had to pay in cash. We rode the 3 different gondolas the top and the views were well worth the money. We could see mountains in all directions. We took the team back down to the second station and had lunch outside. We got food from the cafeteria inside. Cheaper. Then we hiked the rest of the way down on the trail that passes two waterfalls. It is an once in a lifetime adventure. Well worth the cost.

Salve!

Considering traveling to Hintertux this coming November 2017. Any one know how the early skiing is this time of the year? And what about Language barriers? We are English and know limited German. We have friends who live in Munich, but I don't think they can stay on the mountain the whole trip. Kind of concerned.

Hello! I was on Hintertux in the end of October/early November last year. At this time usually you can skiing only above 2660 masl, but actually there is enough of pistes. Snow consitions can be very different - during my 5-days stay temperture on top (3250 masl) was from -2 till -16°C.
No any problem with language - almost all people can speak English.
Take with you creme with 50UV filter. Sun theee can burn your face in few hours.

Was it crowded, thinking of going at half term October.

Difficult because October is even more dependent upon the weather than normal. Sunday is always very busy especially if there is new snow. Apart from Sunday, October last year was not busy at all. The major use of the resort is by National and Club teams using two areas for racing training. Punters are therefore not the whole story. If you can get out on the back slopes where the racers do not want to go you will be fine and snow is almost always good. Little chance of skiing down to the mid station - very rarely are these runs open. It is all above the Fernerhaus. Main dangers are lifts closed due to high winds or skiing in white outs. Cannot guarantee 6 days perfect skiing but we go every year and there are relatively few bad days. If you can wait to see forecasts before making up your mind all the better. If you should get a bad day there are alternatives. Lanersbach and Vorder Lanersbach are within a 15 min ski bus ride of the snow and have more infrastructure for other activities. Further away are Finkenberg and Mayrhofen.

Hi, I am travelling to Hintertux from Salzburg and was wondering what the best way to get there is? I was planning on getting a train but I ma not sure what is the closest station and if it is Innsbruck how to get from there to the ski field?

The best way is by train to Jenbach, then change to the Zillertaller line to Mayrhofen where you can catch the service bus to Tux which is at the base of the glacier. It is a fairly straightforward journey,so enjoy the scenery and the skiing.
