Not often you get an opportunity to go down into a previously working coal mine, decommissioned almost 40years ago. Plenty time spent down in the mine itself. For non Dutch or French speakers there is an audio guide to accompany but it is less comprehensive...More

While traveling in the North of France and Belgium, I was looking for a coal mine which could visit underground as well. This is a World Heritage site and it has been arranged to give a real tour to the visitor. Those tours are done...More

Very interesting to learn more about the coal mining industry and see what the harse conditions were for the miners. The tours are guided and we had a very friendly and older guide who worked himself for more than 20 years in a (different) mine...More

You will understand what was the hard work of miners and how they gave their lives for money. It's just incredible to work into darkness with water under the knees, floating waste and a horse that pull a trolley and became blind.

This was the second coal mine tour that my husband and I and our 3 kids have been on, and I guess all coal mines are the same. It wasn't thrilling for us, but this could have been because it was a rainy day and...More

If you don't speak French - don't go there. The French speaking people looked interested in what the tour guide was explaining. The tour guide was enthusiastic and very passionate and it seems like his explanations and the way he delivered them made the difference...More

When this coal mine closed, its next function as a museum was anticipated. Visitors go underground, where they can see different aspects of the mining process. A guide and a movie give background information.
