We were staying locally, so decided to stop off and take a look . It was not a very popular attraction it seemed to us, but very peaceful and quaint. One group of about 5-6 Italians was leaving as we arrived, and another lady was visiting the cemetery on the premises. It is a monastery occupied by two elderly monks, who meet the public on Sundays when they celebrate Mass. We were given a tour by a lady who spoke only Italian, so it was a good thing we have a reasonable grasp of the language. We saw the chapels-quite awe inspiring for such a humble place, and an admirable attempt at a museum. We really enjoyed our visit, but I can see how it might not be to everyone's liking. At the end of the tour there is a modest shop-essential oils, jams, limoncello, etc, made not by the monks, but by the husband of the lady who showed us around. We didn't get to see the gardens.…

My wife and I visited the Convento Cappuccini near Francavilla di Sicilia n Messina Province during a two-week vacation in Sicily. There are now only two brothers living there and the rest of the building has been set up as a museum. Whilst there is nothing stunning on display, at only Euro 2.50 pp entry fee, it is worth the detour if you are in the area. Outside the monastery, there is a massive graveyard with numerous large, elaborate mausoleums, typical of many cemeteries in Sicily.…

it's worth visiting it. you have to take a long walk of you have no car but still worth it. paid 2 euros 50c each. an old man stood with us and explained everything in detail. very worth viewing. the only place of interest in francavilla

What a surprise my visit to the Convento die Cappuccini ended up being. The gardens are worth a visit alone. A great amount of local pride is on display - and this is obvious from the moment you walk in. The tour inside the convent is of great interest. Some great views are to be had from outside the convent. Highly recommend!…
