About
The Caprice is a palace designed by the amazing architect Antoni Gaudí i Cornet and is considered to be one of the jewels of European Modernism. While exploring the interior, exterior and the gardens, you will discover a work of great colour, inspired in nature and full of symbolism.

An architectural gem
Oct 2019
This little architectural gem in the coastal town of Comillas, is well-maintained and easy to tour. We enjoyed walking through the house and the grounds, including the excellent explanatory materials.

By Gaudi in Comillas
Dec 2019 • Couples
While Comillas is a nice little town with old historic centre the main attraction is surely the El Capricho de Gaudí. The house designed by Gaudí. Not comparable by park guelle or other Gaudí monuments but very well the character of Gaudí in early works.

Architectural Magic
Jul 2019
This is a must do visit if in the area, even if you’re not that pushed about Gaudi’s work. It’s hard not to be impressed by this magnificent building, which looks like it came straight out of a children’s story book. Although it is relatively compact in size, there are all kinds of twists and surprises at every turn – the 2 music themed stained glass windows in the ‘baño’ area are especially impressive as is the upstairs balcony area. Even though it rained during our visit, it didn’t stop us taking plenty of photos….best viewing point is probably from the far end of the garden.

Why do normal when the fantastic is possible
Aug 2019
Gaudi's breakthrough.
His first big project.
And what a way to start.
The history of the building is simply incredible.
A pas de deux.
When two people communicate, have the same goal, amazing things are possible.
Go to believe it.

Lovely building
Oct 2019
We passed this building while on holiday about 15 years ago, when it wasn't open to the public.

It is beautifully presented, the usual exquisite Gaudi details, particularly inside, and it has an excellent shop, much better than the Gaudi buildings at Astorga or Leon

Really worth a visit
Oct 2019
While driving across the northern coast of Spain, I stopped in to visit El Capricho in Comillas as I had read about it online before leaving home. It is an amazing piece of architecture with so much detail inside and out. Only 5 euro for a visit too.
Really worth a stop if you're driving by.

Gaudis summer castle - A pearl of modernism and so different!
Oct 2019
In the middle of Comillas in Cantabria you can visit one of Antonio Gaudi´s very different, colorful, fun and exciting buildings. Visiting El Capricho de Gaudi, also called Gaudis summer castle, makes you admire the great originality and fantasy Antonio Gaudi showed in designing this exciting building when only 31 years old. The combination of various materials like wood, brickwork, tiles, wrought iron, etc. is typical to certain other Gaudi architecture, too but here the combinations are astonishing. There even is a graceful small tower resembling a Persian minaret, not to forget the ceramic sunflowers all over the building and even outside it. I enjoyed the visit, hope you do too!

Love Gaudi's work
Sep 2019
Comillas is a lovely town. Plenty of shops and cafes.
Capricho de Gaudi is the first house Gaudi designed and had built and is a charming place. Probably the oldest of Gaudi's stained glass windows. Good afternoons visit, with large conservatory tea rooms. Audio visual room shows a video of how it came to be built. Some guided tours, some in Spanish, and some in English.
Inexpensive and a must go and see place.

Welcoming brilliance

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We were fortunate to have Aldo as our English speaking guide. Incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable, both of the architecture and history of this magnificent structure. We spent two hours there and it was well worth the time.
