No tours in English and not allowed to go in not on a tour
Apr 2017 • Family
We were really disappointed after waiting 40mins till the post siesta opening time to be told that they don't do tours in English and we could not go in and wander around by ourselves, still worth the walk up the steep path to take in the outside. Construction work is going on at the moment to the back but the impressive gate and tree lined avenue up to the University is a lovely stroll

Interesting

The tour is quite short time-wise for the cost of it, but you get to see something that is very interesting and historic. We are glad that we did it.

Beautiful building on the hill
May 2016 • Couples
We visited this site out of curiosity, after driving passed what appeared to be rather a Disneyesque building positioned on the top of the hill, on our way into Comillas. A very helpful young lady in the tourist information office identified it as the Universidad Pontificia and we retraced our way on foot, back up the hill. It is possible to take the car however, with the added bonus that for a token fee, you can drive through the magnificent main gate and park right near the entrance to the university building.
The outside is quite stunning, built out of red and cream stone. For 3 euros you can have a guided tour of the inside. They seem to take place every hour. Unfortunately the guide only spoke Spanish, but there is a little booklet in English that describes all the main features. It is impossible to get into the building, unless you are part of the tour, but the whole thing only lasts about half an hour and you get to see some beautiful carving in wood and stone, stained glass windows and architecture.
Even though the whole thing is relatively new, dating from the late 19th century, it is impossible not to marvel at the workmanship. If you appreciate beautiful buildings and are curious about the unusual, this place is well worth a visit.

Beautiful building
Mar 2016 • Friends
For a small fee we were able to drive right up to this building and walk around the outside. I understand that anyone can enrol for Spanish language courses at the University, no matter what level they are currently at. The bronze doors at the main entrance depict the 'Virtues' and are truly spectacular - as is the view of Comillas you get from here.

Outside is great: do a tour to get inside
Aug 2015 • Family
Stunning building from the outside which can be seen from miles around. The only way to get in is to go on a tour (check times before) and again the only tour available was in Spanish - but we took it just to get in. Quite impressive inside and that's just the tiny bit you see. Seemed to us that they were missing a trick here by not offering more guided tours and some in English!

Beautiful building...too bad we couldn't get closer
May 2015 • Couples
We would have loved to see up close this Catholic university, it is ranked one of the top 100 Universities in the world. While we were not overly far away and were able to get some decent pictures, no roads seemed to lead to there, where you could access it by car. Only vehicles servicing the university seemed to have access. It's very much steeped in history, unfortunately we could not right inside the university to really enjoy it. This was not through a lack of trying. Every time we seemed to get close, vehicular access to the university seemed to be cut off, blocked or ended. A shame, because it was an incredible building and makes Comilllas all the more interesting.

Beautiful Gate
Aug 2014 • Couples
The Puerta de la Universidad Pontifica is a very beautiful and unusual gate at the bottom of the hill. It mixes brick and ceramics to create the gate. At the top one can see the coat of arms of the school.
