We were alone for the class - went to the market but didn't get much explanation about anything as Karuna was talking to others in the local language more than speaking with us. Then she pushed us in to a spice store and disappeared while they gave us the hard sell at wildly over-inflated prices. Went back to her place... More

Was there November 2015 with a group of 10. Went first by tuc-tuc to the markets in Galle. Visited markets for vegetables, spices, tea, fish, poultry. Went back to the place in Unawatuna were we got great instruction on how to prepare the spices, the coconut, the meat. All the time Karuna was laughing and telling jokes. She has a... More

This was an excellent way to spend 4 hours in Galle. Karuna took us to the market to select ingredients (this was an experience in itself!) and then we spent the next few hours making delicious curries. There were about seven different dishes and the final banquet was incredible. This was the best Sri Lankan food of our entire trip.... More

We stayed in unawatuna in jan 2015 and went to Karunas cooking class one morning. My Daughter was a little apprehensive and concerned that she may make a fool of herself if she could not cook properly, but our host made us smile from the second we arrived to the minute we left. There were only six in our class... More

Found this on trip advisor before coming to Sri Lanka and wasn't disappointed. We wanted to do a cooking class whilst over here and Karuna delivered a fun and informative morning. In total we made 8 to 9 curries and sundries and it was delivered at an easy to follow and relaxed pace. We phoned to book it the week... More

Karuna greeted us with a warm smile and infectious laugh. We went straight off to the markets to get the fresh produce in a Tuk Tuk and quickly arrived back at home to do the cooking. Five curries were on the menu plus dessert and there was enough food for the whole street. Amazing experience with my wife and to... More

We loved this experience - seeing the markets, spice shops and fish stalls with someone who could explain what things are and how they're used - cooking seven different dishes (including the best pol rotti I tasted in Sri Lanka) with someone who took the time to talk us through why you'd add one thing but not another - and... As soon as we arrived to Unawatuna this cooking class was the first thing we booked after reading about it in Lonely planet and here on trip advisor. Luckily there was space for us in between to fully booked days. We showed up happy and exited as we both enjoy cooking. We were the only two people that day and... More

If you love to eat the Sri Lankan curries following this cooking course is a must. First you buy the ingredients at the Dutch Market in Galle. Don't forget to bring your camera because there are lots of photo opportunities! Then we bought some spices, if you want to buy some spices I would recommend that you do this at... More
