Very interesting. Several species of plants, insects and birds are only found in this mountain range. By all means use a guide. They know the details and where to find the things you would want to see. Otherwise you will be playing nature's version of "Where's Waldo".

Very nice forest. We were lucky to have an excellent guide. We saw a lot of animals and also a quetzal!

This was absolutely fantastic. It is so much better with a good guide. My 13 year old son said this was the highlight of the trip and thats saying a lot since we were all over CostaRica zip lining and hiking and hanging out at the beach. You must not miss this lovely place.

Great guides, fun and knowledgable, great activity if you have younger kids, older ones might not be as interested. I found the new and old growth very interesting to observe.

The experience you have will depend on the guide that you get to escort round the forest. All the guides are extremely informative but some are more enthusiastic than others. The humming bird gallery in the near by coffee shop is a must.

Pedestrian and slow going, not full of charm or natural interest. Met some interesting Ticos here though and had fun people watching. All in all, not a good use of limited time or funds.

We took a trip on the TrainForest, 10 am, Feb 03/14. It was a very interesting, and informative journey. The escort provided information on the primary and secondary forest, and also the animals and birds along the way. At the end of track, the look-out view was magnificent. An optional walk the the forest is worth doing. Highly recommended.

The day that we visited the "Cloud Forest" it was that, cloudy. From the train ride to the lookout and return it was great to see that these owners have invested so much into making this an experience that you probably will not see again. These scale locomotives are powered by diesel engines and look authentic . The rail cars... More

Don´t get me wrong, the staff was great and everything, but there is nothing original about this train tour (aside from the fact that you are on a train). The only interesting thing to see is a nice spot where you can see (if it is not clouded) the Arenal Volcano and a great view. If I want to walk... More

On the surface this seemed like too much of a 'tourist' thing for us to do. It would be a mistake to miss this if you have kids. The train takes you through various parts of the cloud forest with a knowledgable guide. At the terminal part of the line you disembark for either a coffee or hiking break to... More
