There are other places in the world, and in the village where workshops and houses are built into a chalk cliff but this is a big chateau with a ruined castle on the top of the hill above it. The modern history is that it...More

When my husband told me we were going to a Chateau where Rommel stayed. My reaction was another one of those boring places he likes! But I really enjoyed it , it was a unique chateau, built in the chalk of the hillside. In fact...More

We stumbled across this place by chance - and we're surprised to find it so interesting. The view from the dungon justifies the entry fee by itself. The audioguide is in French but ask for the leaflet in English. You need lots of energy for...More

I had no idea this was here until we drove into the city. This is a short drive from Giverny so we stayed here. If you're in town see the castle ( it's built into the mountain, and was later used by German soldiers during...More

Enjoyed the impressive building, large and spacious with an interesting history. No explanations on site. Many stairs to climb to the top. Beautiful view of the valley and the river. I recommend.

We were recommended to go here by the owner of the B and B where we were staying and he also very kindly gave us a voucher for free entry for one of us. It's impressive from the outside but there's not a lot to...More

Despite inside the castle there are less items/forniture than in other castles, this building was built surrounding another medieval castle. In fact the so called "donjon" was built in medieval era on top of a cliff (falaise) and after during the Renaissance period it was...More

I do like a chateaux because they are generally steeped in some sort of varied history. This chateaux is no different. Granted however my reason for visiting was because Rommel used it in 1944. The chateaux itself was impressive and if you have no major...More

Visited independently, on a dry cloudy day. Chateau living quarters displayed either historical furniture (including "Napoleon's Chair" or chaise longue portrayed as modern art).Having got so far, I found three tunnels took me surreally to the Keep, at which point (more surreally) 12 Eurofighters passed-by...More

Hi - so sorry - have been away. On this occasion I'm not able to help. We were passing through and had accommodation and restaurants booked elsewhere.
