On the way back from Pienza to our hotel, Relais Villa Grazianella, we stopped at this wonderful shop, Ceramiche Sbarluzzi Pienza. The bright colors and the sun of Val D’Orcia shine in Sbarluzzi’s vases, centerpieces, figurines, flower pots... What a great souvenir from Tuscany, even if you have to ship it. The shop is excellent, the craftsmanship is superb, and they ship to the US.

This little village is a 30(?) minute drive from Siena. It was a breath of fresh air after the chaos and grime in Siena. Pienza was rebuilt by Pope Pius II in the mid-1400s. It was the first city intentionally planned as an ideal Renaissance town. Well, they got it right as it has a real human and honest feel to it, but still manages to be a working city. It's beautiful and I heartily recommend that anyone who is nearby should visit.
