A horticultural oasis in the very heart of dairying country. A passionate plantsman's garden and Taranaki showcase. Come and learn about the history, the plants and how to grow them for yourself or just wander and appreciate the beauty. Now owned and managed by the Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the region. For no charge you can park your campervan in the carpark overnight, help yourself to tea and coffee in the Hollard Centre or use the barbeques by the fantastic children's playground. Enjoy it - it's yours.

Thanks for your review. Hollard Gardens is looked after by a small team of gardeners employed by Taranaki Regional Council, with help from volunteers and yes, they do love it. Feel free to get in touch if you or anyone you know would like to...More

These gardens are quite a way from New Plymouth, however, they offer a nice 45 minutes or so stroll. They were created, designed and grown by an avid gardener. In the little visitor centre you can find out more about the couple and also make...More

Thanks very much for your review. Spring is the best time for the many rhododendrons but you're right that there are flowers to see, whatever the season. I think you're probably referring to Lake Rotokare, a reserve with a fence to protect the native flora...More

Maybe a little off the beaten track, but a very pleasant place to wander, and well set up for families, too - well-equipped play area, barbecue facilities, etc. And, like the other better-known Taranaki gardens, no charge for entryMore

Thanks for your review. You're right that Hollard Gardens isn't as well known as the other Taranaki Regional Council owned gardens - Tupare and Pukeiti. It's further from New Plymouth, if that's where you are, but a trip around the mountain, including a visit to...More

Perhaps because it is 45 min from New Plymouth we had this garden almost to ourselves. The variety of trees and plants was impressive and we spent a couple of happy hours wandering around. The visitors centre had interesting information about the history of the...More

What a wonderful legacy Rose and Bernie Hollard have left. Spring is a lovely time to visit to see the rhododendrons and azaleas in bloom. Birds were singing and bees buzzing. (and admission is free).
