If you haven't been then add it to your bucket list. Lake Tekapo, New Zealand in later November each year erupts into colour with a dazzling display of Russell Lupins that complement the already spectacular backdrop of the lake and Southern Alps. Anecdotedly, the lupins are not indigenous to New Zealand and are classified as a weed but they have... More

The lake was beautiful Turkish blue. Many walking trails available around the area. We traveled with elder people (60+) and they enjoyed walking around the lake as well. Supposed to take air safaris, it was a pity that sometimes it was too windy to take off. Better to reserve 1-2 more days in the area to ensure you can find... More

More beautiful than I thought, with the view of mount cook at the other end of the lake, Would love to come back again during winter or summer. Apparently you could see a very beautiful milky skies at night if the weather is good, so book your accomodation near by if you plan to visit lake Tekapo.

One of the most amazing views, ever. I actually discovered Lake Tekapo through a computer screensaver, and was determined to visit ever since! You only need a few hours here since the town is tiny and not much to do, other than frolicking in the lupins (purple plants) and taking pictures of the church. The lupins start blooming around November,... More

With the snow-capped mountains in the distance and the lupins of so many colors on the near shore, I can't imagine a more beautiful lake in the world.

We only had one night at Lake Tekapo so we had to make the most of it. The lake was beautiful and the backdrop even better. Wish we had more time to do the walk around the lake.

The lake looks absolutely beautiful and it's one of the most calming things I've seen in my life. We took the walk up to the observatory and from there down to the lake.

Lake Tekapo is must when traveling the South Island. We spent a few hours star gazing and photographing the starry sky. Wild flowers everywhere. Great views of Aoraki/Mount Cook on the drive there.
