We stumbled over Berze le Chatel by accident, while taking the tourist route to Cluny/Macon (D17). We were captivated by the site and drove up to the castle not realising that we were able to actually pay and walk in. It wasn't very expensive (less than €8 for an adult if I remember correctly) and our 20 year-old and 14 year-old received student discounts, and well worth the money. The castle is impressive, immaculately kept and affords incredible views of Burgundy ...

There were only a handful of people there on a really hot day - I couldn't understand why this place wasn't over-run with tourists, but then that is the beauty of France for you! You can get guided tours there, but we opted to just go around the place on our own and we were given a sheet of paper in English informing us of the history of the castle. Fascinating and very beautiful!

A stunning example of a medieval castle in the Burgundian countryside. Worth visiting if you are in the area.

This is a magnificent chateau from a distance. We were not able to go in as it was a Monday...closed. But the view of it was spectacular. I believe you can only visit outside anyway, but even a drive by was worth it.

We de this from the road as we drove from Cluny to Frisse. Initially wanted to cycled the distance after hiring bike in Cluny but decided against it as the weather had turned.

We were expecting a visit inside the Chateau, but it wasn't apparent until after we had purchased the tickets that it would be a guided tour around the Chateau. Unfortunately, the tour was in French and we were handed a sheet of information about the Chateau in translated English. It could have done with numbers at the areas that corresponded with the sheet of paper so we could work out where we were. The young guide was very polite, but her English wasn't very good. Tour lasted about an hour, so was good value for money at 6.50 euros. If only my French was a lot better, I might have enjoyed it a lot more.

We went to this chataux and had a guided tour which lasted an hour. It was very interesting with the guide speaking excellent English and she was very knowledgeable. I think it is great that the owners are continuing to look after the building and let people visit.

My best friend and I rented bikes from Cluny and biked here - it was a pretty hilly trek but so worth it. This was the highlight of my trip. We biked the old train path through a mountain and this was waiting on the other side! It was steep to get up to but secluded and absolutely gorgeous! And we ran into a couple that told us there was a tour at 2pm. With the student discount it was 5 Euros each and absolutely worth it. The inner most circle houses the family that restored this castle but you can tour the outer two rings and the history there dates back to at least the 14th century. It was incredible!
