Not many people from NZ that I know, have been up here..to the top of the Coromandel and where the roads stop. We came across numerous campers and hikers..unfortunately no NZers, who were all admiring and very complimentary of this area. Great trees, beaches of sand and then large boulders, followed by shingle beaches, dot this area. Of note was... More

The north of the Coromandel Peninsula is fantastic for walking and taking in stunning views & natural surrounds. Whether you're heading up the west or east side of the peninsula, stop for a good coffee & food at the cafe on the right at the north end of Colville. Friendly lady who makes great jams. The walk from Stony Bay... More

We travelled all over the Coromandel Peninsular, especially the northern part and it is a pretty special place.

There are many tracks through the forest organised by the DOC, most are really well signed and full of interesting features.

Watch out the Billy Goat track bridge has been taken down. Done the pinnacles a few times. This time got to the car park by the bridge by 2. Took us under 5 hours to walk tot the top and back but be careful and always take sleeping bag etc, in case of emergencies. Found a lady near the top... More

If you have time, stop abd take a walk in the Coromandel Forest Parc. It is always worth, taking a rest from campervan driving ;-). take a deep breath and enjoy the nature which gives beautiful views, be it the trees, ferns or panorama views

This is one of New Zealand's great roads - spectacular views from many of its curves and high points. Be prepared to drive at a steady pace and don't tackle if you are prone to car sickness.

My friends recommended us to visit Pinnacles to see sunrise and sunset from the top. It was quite hard for us to walk as it was first time to clime the mountain, but we could see a beautiful sunrise and scenery. We stayed the hut for 1 night ($15/day, pp) and it is tidy and clean and provided some pans,... More

An excellent day out or even a few days as you can camp there, some walks can be a bit hairy if your not experienced or have the right gear but there are some walks that are quite easy to do, if you do want to do a more harder walk make sure you bring shoes that you don't care... More

Coromandels is very underated. The pinnicles walk is an excellent one day or two day overnight walk. The hut is exceptional for forest hut with good facilities.
