Beautiful and just about warm enough in April

Fairly sheltered with quirky caves and lots of restaurants and shops lining the shore. A long shallow run into the sea.

The beach is clean and safe to swim. Good for children. Taverns open onto the beach. The beach is also in the centre of the town. It is not a pretty town and there is the usual amount of junky tourist shops selling cheap trinkets and many taverns. We visited in late April. The place was not overrun with holiday... More

Stayed here over easter, beach is ok nothing special. It is a shame that with all ruins around they have not done a single thing to show this ancient village just let it go to rubble and a rubbish dump. What we found here also was that most businesses credit card machines do not work! And no discount either if... More

To enter the caves you have to pay 2 euro per person, which we did'nt. There were a lot of teenagers climing on the rocks.

It's Matala. Laid back, decent restaurants, great beach, the caves, the warm breeze, music in the streets. How could anyone go wrong? This is not a town with big luxury resorts, so no need searching for those here, This is a place you go to hang out on the beach and enjoy the warm water.

If you want to slow down, this is the beach...You can not really swim into open space, but you could enjoy in the water. Often there is windy and water can become ruff in a second, also there're lots of rocks that can be dangerous. The sand is warm and the place surroundings is is beautiful, surrounded by the caves... You can't enjoy swimming here that much, as the beach is pretty small, and water can become ruff in a second, also there're lots of rocks that can be dangerous to inexperienced swimmers. Yet, the place is beautiful, surrounded by the small caves in the mountain, and little shops all around you.

I have been to Matala many times. My husband proposed to me at sunset there, when the beach was someone barren of people. It's a sand beach and if you're lucky you can find an umbrella or a chair to sit (be prepared to pay). Everything is expensive in this little place, but you must go. The last time I... More

Lovely scenery but place is a rip off. Caters for Germans who want to be hippies for a fortnight before going back to their factories. Not that great.
