Cosy afternoon in this historic borgo in winter.
Feb 2020 • Couples
Nicely restored historic borgo on two hills. The part Castello Vecchio contains the former monastery of San Francesco in which there is a museum now: nice frescoes in the church and some beautifum paintings in the pinacoteca. Birth place of Braccio Fortebrace. The other hill has the convento di Sant'Agnese: the nuns of the order of Saint-Claire guard the relic of the Santa Spina, a thorn from Jesus'crown. Nice central square: Piazza Fortebrace with a nicely decorated bar. Various nice restaurants. Beautiful old fortified town walls.

Well worth a visit
Jul 2019
This Medieval hill-top village has everything - a walled city, great views across the valley, great restaurants, a square with various activities during the year, steep climbing streets and a beautiful archway. Clean, serene and picturesque. Although we were a couple, it would be good for a family. We went in the evening and did not go to all of the sites, but a daytime visit would be great.

Beautiful and little known Umbrian hilltop town
Jul 2019 • Couples
This historic town is well worth a visit. There are some interesting shops and good restaurants, and the town was very peaceful at lunchtime on a Wednesday. There are special events 11-18 August 2019 which should be fun and interesting.
We were pleased to find disabled parking 0n Via Aldo Bologni, right next to the archway leading to the main square. Do go to the Tourist Office (on left just inside the archway) to get a map. This is a good map for people with a disability because you can see easily which streets have steps and stairs. However there is a steep climb up to the top of the town at the old castle (Rocca di Braccio) so if you want to go there, go by road as it is difficult using a powered chair on steep cobbled streets.
Unfortunately we could not get to our chief target by wheelchair, the Church and Museum of San Francesco.

We specifically went to Montone with friends to have lunch at Erba Luna (which was fabulous). Montone is worth a visit. It has a nice vibe and is typical of the region.

A great little walled town
Feb 2018 • Friends
We stayed in Montone on the recommendation of friends who stay there and we were not disappointed. We stayed outside the town in Hotel Fortebraccio which was excellent and every afternoon we would go to the piazza for a drink and to watch the locals playing cards or just catching up, it was a great atmosphere. There are a few cafes which all serve good food and a great little general store and the town itself is in great condition considering it's age. Well worth a visit and walk around and make time to go through the church.

We got there in the morning before lunch time. Really nice and pure Umbria atmosphere. If you are in the aria you should absolutely visit.
