You need to book a tour, and try to do it the day before, because this is a very popular place to visit. There are visits in Italian and English, and they are held by former factory workers, very passionate about their jobs/lives. The factory has been renovated for the purpose of the visits, and contains very nice exhibits. A must!!!

If you spend some days in Favignana, you can't miss this tour. It takes just 1 hour and I suggest you to book in advance. I took a late evening tour, before sunset, and it was the highlight of my stay in Favignana. Guides are very informative and you can learn a lot about Florio family, tuna factory and in general about Sicily.
The only downside: too many people in each group (50/60), during this times I'd appreciate less crowd.

The tuna museum is a must see when being on the island. We where lucky enough to get a quick ‚private tour‘ by the lovely English speaking lady from Palermo, who used to live in Australia. We cannot thank her enough. Inside the Museum tours are mandatory and they are usually in Italian. That way you really learn a lot about the traditional way of tuna fishing which - due to industrial overfishing - does not exist anymore.

We’d been looking the the Stabilimento for a couple of evenings before we visited. Very informative about the history of the way that Tuna has traditionally been caught and processed.

Very interesting and well managed museum where you will surely learn interesting stuff. The guides are great: it seems they like their job and they do it well.
Worth to spare a couple of hours for this when you start to be sun burned or just in the evening before dinner.

Good guided tour of the ex tuna factory of favignana. The place is extremely fascinating, and they also host some Romans remains. I hope they will restore the entire building. The tour was in Italian, I don’t know if they do some in English.

This huge building, restored about a couple of decades ago, was for a long time the most important tuna trap in the Mediterranean. Now it contains a couple of museums, the biggest dedicated to the recent past of the tuna trap and to their testimonials, with a nice exibit. It is an important piece of history.

Our guide Francesca made the tour very special for us. We had a very nice time being guided through so much history by this exciting lady. Ticket price for 6 euros is well worth it.

So, you take a commercial ferry from Trapani to visit a sleepy island seated next to a charming hypochondriac senior who is going home from a doctors’s appointment. You make your way through the mild jostling of bike and car rentals and head to the abandoned factory. Passing a summer rentals and a truck of artichokes and some perming stucco to arrive at the factory. The sheer scope of the factory with boats, cooling battery, a net hall and now pristine canning displays are vivid shadows of the activity, smell and fortune of the owners and pedendants. The silence is just waiting for the sounds of activity.
If tuna canning is not your thing, the exhibit of the 241 BC Battle of Egadi excavations is an archeological thriller all its own house on the premises of the tuna factory.

“Torino”
