Mud fir sand
Oct 2021 • Couples
I could only give 1 star otherwise it would be less.
Sand is more like mud and littered with rubbish. We knew it would be end of season and places shut, but it looked more like it been run down for years. There was a couple of bars open still. These pics are best I could find

Don't come to Zante for the turtles
Oct 2021
We had done a significant amount of research about the time periods that turtles could be seen in Zante (June - Oct) but as soon as we got on the boat, the driver explained that they always leave at the end of September with only 2-3 remaining each year in Laganas Bay.

But let's step back a bit first, Laganas Bay supposedly the party centre of Zakynthos in peak season was a ghost town by 24 October. Stores were all boarded up and the only place that was open was selling three old cupcakes. The one tour operator who sold us our small group adventure promised our money back if we didn't see turtles.

So we got in a mini bus with two other families and heading down to the port. Here we waited to board a boat while his colleagues tried to sell more seats. Regrettably, her counting skills weren't so good (or her sales skills too great) because when they went to load the boat they realised that the last sale (to a family of seven) put us over the '12 person limit'. This didn't stop them - they just stopped one of the families that had accompanied us from Laganas (and had waited with us for 30 mins at the port) to board the boat telling them it would be a ten minute wait. Despite everyone's protests that this approach was unfair they were left on the shore (and sadly for them we saw that they only managed to board a boat on our return over an hour later).

It was at this point the captain realised that they had sold the group on two different packages but off we went anyway to 'hunt' for turtles. This 'hunt' consisted of chasing a turtle into the port area and attempting to sandwich it between another stationary boat and the wall. We saw a flipper, and 'money back guarantee' was no longer applicable.

Now I appreciate the deceptive nature of photoshop and that we weren't in Zante in summer, so our expectations should have been lower. But given that the driver so quickly shared that 'except for two, the turtles all leave in September', it is a complete sham that his colleagues continue to drum up business and sell tickets onto boats.

Regrettably, Marathonisi (turtle) island is literally piece of sand 1 metre wide and not worth the stop (and contrary to the initial salesman's assurances, doesn't have food).

All in all quite a disappointing experience, the only positive being the driver tried his best to make it an enjoyable with his friendly banter and the caves are worth seeing - even if the temperature prevented swimming.

Needs to be revamped
Oct 2021
It was very quiet this year because of Covid, but they should have a rethink of the strip, if you are not in to nightclubs there is not much else, nothing for families. Restuarants and cafes are really good as is the beach. area and restuarants. Trips all seem reasonably priced and the Fund train trips are good.

Long beach with numerous bars and restaurants
Aug 2021
Unless you want to stay close to boat rentals or attractions for children, choose a bar you like and find a place close to it.
Quite many to choose from.

Nothing special

No blue waters. There are much more beautiful beaches in Zakynthos. I recommend renting a boat and travel around by yourself.

Overly busy and commercialised - did not like
Jul 2021 • Couples
Friday 23rd July and we paid a visit to the holiday resort of Laganas, on the southern side of the Island. This included a visit to it’s beach which is situated in the picturesque Laganas Bay. Sorry that is all I could find good to say about Laganas and it's Beach.

It is a long narrow stretch of beach with golden sand along the coast. Behind the beach is lined with shops, bars restaurants, boat & scooter/car hire and any thing else that could be crammed in.

When we visited the beach was overly busy, row upon row of sunbeds, social distancing unheard of.

It was all totally over commercialised and noisy, not conducive for a quiet day on the beach.

There were a variety of water sports and activities available. Beach sellers patrolled the beach selling their wares.

The main road leading down to the beach is the Laganas Strip, filled with nightclubs, late night bars, floor show clubs, generally all rather seedy.

Definitely the resort, including the beach, is geared for young partying people.

Been there, seen it, would not recommend it, would hate a two week holiday here, maybe 40 years too old for the place.

A nice, shallow beach with blue-green waters
Jul 2021
One of the most popular beaches of Zakynthos, Laganas still remains a tourist attraction. It was probably the most crowded beaches we visited and had a nice swim there. There are plenty of beach bars and sunbeds with umbrellas; however, you may have a hard time trying to set up your own umbrella or beach tent, as most of the beach seems to be owned by the beach bars.
