Neat stop on our way to Waimoua Forest. The story of where these pieces of wood originated was quite fascinating and to hold wood pieces made from something thousands of years old was neat. Ended up purchasing a beautiful piece to bring home. Yes, as others have stated, they aren't cheap but they have a definite uniqueness to them.

Although expensive, the items for sale are beautifully made. We purchased an important birthday present here & are delighted with it. Well worth a visit, even if just looking.

You don't have to be a woodturner to appreciate the art in making something from nature shine - this is a great place to see what a tree can hide behind the bark

Hi and thanks for taking the time to add a comment. Glad you enjoy our ancient kauri wood and art pieces, yep, the wood of the ancient kauri trees can be beautiful, fiddleback grain, green, brown and golden colours, and Rick enjoys creating his platters, bowls etc from this wood - the oldest workable wood in the world. Hope to... More

A friendly chat that was informative on the age of different pieces of wood depending on which swamp the wood came from. Prices similar to high end shops around the country. Nice to see the wood turners work space.

I love wood and wood turned products. This gallery did not disappoint. It is true that the prices are very expensive but considering the age of the kauri wood used that is not a surprise. The pieces are unique. You are able to get any products posted and if you are an international visitors this is a saving for any... More

We stopped on our 2 week journey around New Zealand to see the wood carvings of Kauri wood. The studio is very unassuming when you drive up, rustic at best. Then you enter the interior with all the lovely displays of bowls, plates and sculptures. What a contrast!!!! WE fell in love with a wonderful plate and had it shipped... More

Here you can watch a bowl being turned by the expert wood worker. There are plenty of products for sale from cheaper items to significant investment pieces. Tourist information can be gleaned from the woman in charge of the wood turner and a useful service of overseas postage of purchases makes life easier if you're travelling.

hi and thanks for your feed back. Rick - the wood turner - enjoys showing visitors to his studio how he recovered the wood through to the finished products and I love helping travellers plan their itinerary so that they get to see the special area of the Kauri Coast and Northland New Zealand. Hope to see you again sometime.... More

We purchased some bowls that had some carved edge design, a little different than the typical ones of beautiful wood only. Very nice store owner who offered to call the carver and see if more could be made, and to figure out shipping for us.

In looking for the i-site we stumbled upon this woodcarvers shop and spent 40 minutes talking to the wife of the wood carver and admiring his various pieces. She gave us a brief history on how he got started and where he sourced his wood from to start his craft. The pieces are gorgeous and the craftsmanship is unmistakable. Although... More
