There is vast collections of French ,English, Sanskrit etc books in this library. you are free to attend the reading room. Since I have other commitments I didn't enter.

Came to visit this library on a Thurdsday and there was a security gard at the entrance who told us we could not visit the inside of the Library. As I read other reviews, it seems it only happened to me. Very disappointing.

Helpful staff. Frequented by many local patrons. Separate women's reading tables. Great place to stop in for newspapers and magazines in English.

Very disappointing place where old and rare books are not kept safely, very dusty and not even classified. So many valuable books are being ignored , Otherwise, anyone cna have access to each section and read revues , newspaper leisurely.

We dropped in hoping to get some information of the history of Pondicherry. The service was friendly and there are certainly plenty of books as this is a library and well used too. However for us we didn't get the books we were looking for.
