About
The Iberian Citadel of Calafell is one of the most remarkable archaeological sites of the Iberian times (6th to 2nd centuries BC) in our country due to its singularity. Its experimental reconstruction "in situ" makes the Citadel an appropriate place for all range of public in order to know how the Cossetan Iberians lived more than 2000 years ago.

Interesting place

Very interesting to see and lovely views from the top. Lift was helpful so everyone could see roof view, especially those who have difficulties climbing steps.

Surprising trip to the past
May 2019 • Couples
From the town of Calafell, the Iberain village looks like an unprepossessing cluster of buildings, but appearances can be deceptive. In fact, this is a fascinating trip back to the past.
The site is basically built on top of the ruins of a lost Iberian village. The complex is very large with lots of houses that you can enter and explore at your own leisure. There is a Roman siege tower that you can climb up, and armour and weapons that you can examine and see. Notices in the site are in Catalan but they are numbered and you get a free booklet with all the same information in English when you arrive. We spent a very happy couple of hours there.
Not knowing anything about the ancient Iberian people, this was a really eye-opening experience for me and one that I would recommend to anyone spending a holiday in Calafell. Go in the morning though because it's going to get very hot later in the day in summer.

Reconstruction of an authentic pre-Romanic site

Interesting for history buffs - not entertaining. Somewhat dificult to find - there are signposts but rather far apart. It is signposted for walkers from the inland side of the raiiway station - but it's a longish walk!

Worth a visit
Jul 2018
Great place to visit if you are in the area. Not so easy to walk or bus to so if not using a car allow enough time to walk up there and be prepared for non paved sections along a main road.
If you can go when they have an English speaking tour it is well worth the extra £2 or so per person.

Fascinating reconstructed Iberian Iron Age village
Sep 2017 • Family
Fascinating reconstructed Iberian Iron Age village. It's an open air museum and experimental archaeology site where you can walk around and go into the reconstructed buildings, and see where the researchers are doing experiments.

Only drawback is that the entrance is through an unsightly car park and derelict building, and the area of Calafell is an unsightly strip of mainly holiday homes and so forth.

Really interactive

We were greated by really friendly guides, who told us short history of ciutadells, also gave us a map and guide book with detailed history of the place. The most fascinating thing was that you can climb everywhere, see how actually people used to live. This time of year is the best for a visit since there were almost two of us in a whole ciutadella.

Historical place in Calefell
Aug 2016 • Family
An interesting historical place in beautiful Calafell. Takes about 30 minutes to walk from the end of Calafell where we stayed so comfy shoes and water to take as there is no shops around. The staff speaks English which was very helpful.
