Located on the northern Peninsula of Antarctica, is a huge settlement of penguins, literally thousands of the cute guys, it was so much fun to see them in action, every now and then a leopard seal would arrive to spoil the party. As far as seeing penguins goes this was a highlight.

Brown Bluff is located on the Tabarin Peninsula was formed by an extinct volcano in northern Antarctica with an elevation of 2,444 feet. We didn't do a land excursion here but it is very beautiful.

Seeing so many penguins so close provides an invaluable opportunity to observe their behavior in the wild. It was an unforgettable experience and would love to come back again

Early in our trip to the Antarctic peninsula, we made an expedition landing at Brown Bluff and we’re amazed at the penguin activity taking place in two distinct rookeries. In both the Gentoo and Adeile groups, you could see parents feeding their chicks, as other adults used their “penguin highway” to come and go toward the water, in the ongoing search for food. Many penguins were seen “porpoising” further out in the open water. This being mid January, temperatures were mid thirties (F), quite comfortable if dressed appropriately. A magnificent scene of thousands of penguins doing what they do at this time of year. Climate Change a real concern with regard to declining population numbers.

One of the most spine tingling moments of my life. Having spent a brilliant morning with the backdrop of snow covered cliffs watching colonies of Gentoo and Adelie penguins with the most adorable behaviour, we went out on a short cruise in a RIB through some icebergs close up to huge elephant seals. Could it get any better? It certainly did. Whilst out on the boat we were approached by a humpback whale which surfaced, swam around and under the boats and resurfaced so close to the boat that we could have reached out and touched it. This continued for around ten minutes until the whale decided it had better things to do, leaving us with a flap of it’s fluke and final blast through it’s blowhole. A magical moment I will treasure for the rest of my life.

The zodiac landing was easy - only one passenger ended up with water inside their boot. The landscape was rather like landing on the moon, craggy and dark. The chinstrap penguins just wandered around us. We would step out of their way as they were on a mission. Seals were also on the beach next to a whaling boat wreck practicing their fighting techniques. This was a pinch-me experience!

This was my first landing on continental Antarctica, and what an experience. We landed on the beach safely and wandered a couple hundred metres up the beach with Penguins literally all around us looking for ways to access the sea safely. There was a significant rookery at the top end of the landing beach, lots of chicks to see as well as Penguin activity. The weather was brisk, but manageable. Ice flows all around the bay, Penguins were a mix of Adele and Gentoo, mostly the former.
The bleak inland rocky landscape just added to the experience, and what an experience it was
