This was an easy dry doc landing onto a carpeted gangway. Felt like the Oscars! 🤣There was Penguins 🐧 everywhere and the story of men who spent the better part of a brutal winter abandoned huddled under and old Row boat. Incredible!

The Chilean Antarctic Base in Antarctica is located on Isabel Riquelme Island. Unluckily our Expedition Cruise ship did not choose this sight for landing this time and we could only view the base at a distance and take a few photos for memory.

Had a stop here on our recent cruise and were very impressed with the facilities of this small Chilean Naval outpost. 11 men live here along with thousands of penguins (the smell!). Small gift shop was nice and they will mail a postcard for you with an Antarctic postmark for $5USD. Some interesting history and all those penguins!

I loved this base! We were on Hurtigruten's Fram and stopped here...all I can say is this is my favorite spot.
The Chilean men who are posted there, had cookies, tea and coffee for us. They were welcoming and friendly and we enjoyed talking with them and their hospitality. They told us they have over 350 passenger ships stopping during the summer months...that's an awful lot of cookies!
There are penguins all over the place, and the buildings are interesting. There's even a lookout in one of them.
If you are on a trip to the peninsula, I hope you take the time to stop and have coffee with the hospitable men of the base. It will be a good memory!

Antartica is a wonderful place to visit. You can visit this Chilean Naval station and mingle with thousands of penguins if you like. The water is a chilly 28 degrees (yes, because it is so salty) it is not fun to fall in, which I did. Watch your step! The scenery is an extension of all the other in the area. Once you step off the Zodiac to see this base, you are transported to a unique world that could be on ice planet Hoth. Visit Antarctica to see for yourself.

We took an expedition ship to the Antarctic with stops on South Georgia and The Falkland islands and some other antarctic islands. This base camp was quite nice. The other one where we stopped longer was Argentinian and called Experanza and had even an antarctic museum, church, restaurant, shop and public phone booth.

If you want to spot the rare albino Peguins, then this place is truly for you, also it's surrounded by amazing icebergs depicting the golf ball effect (see photos), as a result of being submerged under the sea. It's a once in a lifetime place, and a must to see!

It's the only gravel landing strip to arrive close to Antartica.
It is actually already Antartica.
Many logistic-bases are on same island.
Whenyou land you already get the feeling of what will enchant you in your trip.
Chilean army manages it, with no weapon, in a very serious way, and the hut where you wait for the immigration (actually ....there is no immigration, it's just a cleàrance) it' so Antarctic ...
Great place to land, good way to start your trip.
Nothing nice to see, but from there you enter into wonderland
