The researchers at the station are friendly and provide a great tour of the facilities. The station also has the distinction of being the most southern bar in the world. The station personnel make their own vodka which is quite good. I recommend buying a shot or two. One can also send a postcard (for a small fee) from the station.

Stopped here while on our Quark cruise. It's a lovely colourful place with beautiful surroundings. The neighbours are penguins. We were given a guided tour of the station with a short explanation of what they did. Lastly we got to visit their cosy bar. I had given them a t-shirt, a can cosy and a bottle opener from our local brewery and got some home made vodka in exchange. I was quite happy. Would have liked to have had more time there but we had a schedule to stick to. It was a great visit and well worth going if you get the chance.

We were one of the first ships able to reach the station as the pack ice broke up. The station gives you a tour of their facilities, then you can post a postcard, buy trinkets or try their homemade vodka. well worth a stop if your ship can get into the channel.

The scientists at this research facility are friendly, happy to answer any question you may have, and if you're lucky enough, you can have a drink with them in their own bar!

Stopped here on an Antarctica cruise. Its an interesting location, it was quite cold and stormy. One person there gave a short tour, we saw some research equipment which was quite limited and didn't seem to be used much. The people here sold postcards and mementos and some vodka, which I really doubt is distilled there. Most of the people there were nice, but I had the impression they were tired of dealing with tourists, of which they get quite a few. You realize visiting here how absolutely terrible it would be to spend summer here let alone a winter. I wonder if the people here ever go outside, the area is quite bleak.

How does one go about visiting the research centre? I would be very keen to pay a visit and I'm sure I am not alone in this!

Good to talk to the Ukrainians posted here and see what they are doing. You can also buy some of the vodka they distil at the base. Bar there looks like a pub bar the British left behind, they also have the southernmost gift shop so you can buy a keepsake actually from Antarctica.

The staff were very welcoming and proud of the research they are undertaking. They are also proud of the vodka they produce locally, with perhaps less reason, but hey, their facilities are limited, and I think it is the southern most bar in the world, allegedly made from timber repurposed from building a new wharf (with the boss half a world away, who would ever know). They have a shop too, with some hand made souvenirs (t shirts $15) and some professionally printed tee shirts ($50, but really nice). It is a great place to visit on a nice day.

The people at Vernadsky were incredibly friendly and welcomed us into their home and workplace. They were quite happy to tell us about the history of the station and the current research there. The land and sights are beautiful.
Upstairs there is the Southernmost bar in the world. I cannot confirm nor deny. And the Southernmost giftshop in the world. It is not the southernmost giftshop. But it did have many gifts that one could buy from the area. There is also a small post office. How reliable, that is to be determined. The bartender was quite friendly, and happy to serve vodka to visitors. It was either $3 or a bra for a shot of vodka. Yes, bra's are an accepted form of currency. I did say this place was amazing.

Made way to the Ukrainian Vernadsky Research station by way of zodiac from our main ship. Station was turned over from the British to the Ukrainians in 1996 where climate and biological research is still conducted. Received a short tour of the facility including research and common areas. Lots of historical photos here from past expeditions and research.

Also, small gift store and cool bar that is the southernmost public bar in the world! Shots of the Ukrainian horilka (vodka-like spirit) for $3.
