We really enjoyed our visit to the castle. The towers and ramparts offered great views of the town of Vitré and the beautiful countryside, while the rooms were interestingly furnished and very uncrowded. A great relief after the hordes at Mont Saint Michel.

We stopped off in Vitre for a quick bite to eat at a local eatery, then walked up to the chateau. It is quite imposing.

Beautiful castle which is really worth the visit. Back to the medieval period! The kids loved it. Wonderful view over the City.

Very reasonable netry fees and the baility to see some of the chateaux. The rest is actually the Town Hall offices and Registry offices. Well worth a short stroll after lunch. Structure is impressive.

It's a beautiful chateau from the outside, but very little to see from the inside as lots of restoration work going on. You can visit few furnished rooms on a self-guided tour. Also a few good views from the top of the chateau.

From the outside it is very impressive (4-star), but there is not much on the inside (3 star). Self-guided, with a few furnished rooms, a chapel, walk a bit of the wall, good views. Not expensive to visit but not really necessary if you've seen...More

We found this chateau as stunning on the outside and fair value for a 2 hour visit. Only some parts of the castle are open to the public, but you can walk the impressive ramparts. It wasn't very busy but we enjoyed the lower amount...More

This is a City (Vitre) that is not in the 'mainstream' of most guides. I stayed in Rennes and discovered this attraction exploring the local pages. Very nice surprise !!, I enjoyed a lot (I like history, specially medieval times).

We walked along the short rampart with a great view. Walked around the inside but didn't pay to go int a small museum inside. It's part of a lovely walk around this beautiful town

One of the well remained beautiful castles in Bretagne. The several rooms that you can visit are parts of the museum. If it were not in France where you mkust select among too many castles to visit, it would deserve a five star rating.

Just wanted to add to the previous answer re opening hours, which I found misleading. The castle is only closed on Tuesday in mid winter. The rest of the year it is open each day.
