Excellent place to hang for a couple of days. You can buy a ticket for 7 tourist spots, including temples, old traditional houses, small exhibitions and a river boat sailing or just having tea on the river front. A problem was that the place was very crowded during the day and the river very noisy at night, having many bars... More

I saw photos from the web sites showing this place had character and was beautiful. This February we had a chance to spend a night there that was surely a treat for us. During the day our guide took us to walk around town, so we can become familiar with the place. After supper we went out with a few... More

We decided to stay 2 nights in Fenghuang or Phoenix Ancient Town. In the day, spend your time visiting the various ancient buildings, understand the heritage of each building and the famous people that once occupy it. Also you can walk around to grab some souvenirs and foodstuff which are lined along the streets. After a while you realize that... More

The view is just breathtaking. Took the boat cruise. It was calm and peaceful at the same time. Loved it! The river is clean and clear. Walk around the ancient town at night. You can see some local old woman wearing traditional costume selling their handmade souvenirs on the roadside. I bought some from them and it was cheap. I... More

We were here (my wife, 7 yr old son and I) for a little more than a day. It was on the way from Longji Rice Terraces to Zhangjiajie as thats a pretty long drive... so this was a nights break. We stayed in Phoenix City Boutique Hotel which is right inside the ancient city centre Pros: - Nice ancient... More

Very nice town, charming streets. You must absolutely visit and get lost in the small medieval street and walk along the river. Early morning (8 to 10) is the right time to see the local going to their work. 5pm nice to see the kids playing in the streets after school. Night is beautiful with old building nicely illuminated along... More

We visited Fenghuang with a flight from Shanghai to Torngren. We arrived about 21:00 and once we reached the ancient town of Fenghuang our first reaction was WOW!!! Old city, full of life, wonderful live music bars, everything is enlightened. Only take into account that at midnight everything stops.

Is located in Fenghuang and the town is divided by the Tuo Jiang River. You must stay in a hotel along the river. We found both sides of the river amazing with a large number of street vendors selling souvenirs and food on the waters edge adjacent to all the hotels, restaurants and retailers. We found in the restaurants they... More

It was a cool city but made unbearable by loud commercialism and annoying tourists walking while on phoning.
