This is a very, very touristic attraction, but with a reason. The red church rises up between the trees and the chapel in the cave is kinda special too. Nature is all around you and busses drive up and down to the lakes of Covadonga....More

This shrine is well worth a visit. It is one of the ancient shrines of Spain, set high in the mountains. There is a fine basilica here, as well as the original shrine accessed through a narrow cave. Parking in the area is quite a...More

Visiting the church and having mass at the cave was worth the experice. This place is just 20 minutes away from the lake area.

The church up on the hill is very impressive on the outside, yet rather simple on its interior. Walk through a tunnel near the parking lot and you arrive at a small chapel built into the rocks. Beneath it, water flows out of the rocks.

Well worth stopping off here on your way to the lakes. The Basilica itself is fairly 'bare' but worth visiting. Obviously popular for coach visitors.
