We were staying in Cong and that was because we love The Quiet Man. The abbey is beautiful and is lovely to spend some time walking about and exploring. We ended up going a few times each time seeing something new. Very interesting place to visit.

The ruins are right in town and a very easy walk to get to. Right next to the statue of John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. We had taken a tour of Kylemore Abby and had a few bonus stops, this being one of them. Unfortunately we were granted 30 minutes here and more time was needed. A very small village... More

While on a bus tour out of Galway with my daughter, we stopped in the village of Cong. The village is charming and the Abbey was beautiful! A must see is the "fishing hut" where the monks would catch their daily meal from the river. Loved this place!

Well kept, within a lovely estate and brilliant little town near it. The castle estates that link onto this are well kept nd peaceful place to go for walks.

The church ruins are great but it's the gardens behind it that are incredible. One of the most magical places I've ever been to-the trees, the mossy grounds, the bubbling streams, all steps away from the village. Once you're in far enough to lose the noise of the village, road, etc., it's like you've travelled back in time. If you... More

You should not plan a whole day for this. The ruins are quite impressive, and there is a traditional Irish cemetery. I am not an enthusiast of these places generally. But it is very picturesque.

Took a self-guided tour of the abbey. The grounds and the ruins are a wonderful place to see. The walking paths are great for getting your steps in.
