DO NOT SHOP HERE...they take your money and never ship the items.
Apr 2018 • Couples
I so wish I had checked Trip Advisor before shopping here. Seemed very reputable and friendly when I and my 2 friends all made large purchases and arranged to have our items shipped. They quickly billed our credit card but despite numerous emails and promises of shipping dates we have yet to receive our items. Luca the owner does eventually respond to emails however they are all empty promises. So sad that so many people now have unpleasent memories of their trip to Italy due to this shop.

Took two years and a return visit to get the items we paid for!
Jul 2017
My wife always wanted to visit Deruta to buy some pottery. So we stopped by on a trip to Assisi from the villa we rent in Lucca. We bought several pieces and paid to have them shipped home - BIG mistake. After a couple months I called and finally spoke to the person who sold us the stuff. It was easy to remember his name because it was also Luca. He said they were waiting for one of the pieces to be completed and the order would ship next week. Several more months went by - Nothing. Called again, different story - same result. This went on for two years. I googled the store and read a couple of very similar stories. We rent the villa every two years so on our next visit we made a special trip to Deruta. Luca recognized me immediately when we walked through the door and turned a surprising shade of crimson. He knew why we were there and produced everything we had paid for two years ago. He even threw in a couple of nice pieces for free. Then he offered to ship it for us! I declined and said we would take it with us. It cost a few extra dollars to ship it all home at a shipping store, but it arrived shortly after we got home. I checked the oldest box Trip Advisor would let me, but this all happened several years ago. Hopefully, Luca has changed his ways!

WARNING - Don't Shop here!
May 2017 • Couples
In May, 2017, four of us (2 couples who travel Italy often) visited Spello several times and bought ceramics at two different shops. The first was Baiocco Francesco and the ceramics were of very high quality and arrived as promised. I highly recommend this shop. We also purchased at Majoliche Fanny (also called Ceramiche Fanny in Deruta). The owner of this shop, Luca Pimpinelli,  promised shipment of our purchases in four to six weeks but, they did not arrive. We contacted Pimpinelli several times about our purchases, and he failed to meet new dates for shipment. Our purchases finally arrived in December – over six months after purchase. These probably would not have arrived at all had we not continued to contact the owner.

The purpose of this email is so you can warn future visitors to Deruta not to shop at Ceramiche Fanny.

Waste of time and money. Huge disappointment

I have visited Deruta six times. Twice friends and I were cheated by this vendor. You get huge promises and poor service. Both times we did not receive what we ordered and follow ups with owner multiple times yielded no resolution. Stay clear.

I Did Not Get What We Paid For
Oct 2016 • Friends
Visited shop in October 2016. Chose some lovely pieces for shipment home. After many emails (most unanswered) and the help of another local business in Spello the delivery was received in June 2017, EIGHT MONTHS LATER. The shipping cost was three times what Luca indicated and the ceramics were not what we bought. The lovely plate of a Tuscan farmhouse we chose was delivered in another style so awful we will be unable to display it in our home. The plates we ordered do not match, both in colour and design so unable to use at a dinner party, and the list goes on. I have tried contacting Luca about this but my emails are ignored. I have advised the local Chamber of Commerce of this disgraceful business practice as well as the local tourist information centre. The shop has some lovely ceramics on display so my advice is if you want it, buy it and carry with you as you may not get what you pay for if and when it is shipped.

Do not buy here.
Sep 2016 • Couples
My experience is the same as many but we visited the store in Assisi. They also have shops in Spello and Deruta. Another name associated with this store is Sberna. We chose our items and took pictures of some of them in September 2017. By November we still did not have our items and they did not return our emails until we contacted our guide from Assisi for help. The ceramics arrived in December. The entire order was incorrect and even though we had taken pictures and exchanged emails for the next several months, the subsequent order they sent us was still incorrect. Do not shop here.

Shipping is a problem
Jul 2016 • Family
I waited to write this until I had confirmation my order had actually shipped. Still haven't received it, but just in case there is someone thinking to go there soon, I must echo the other negative reviews and say CARRY IT WITH YOU. We visited the shop in Deruta, where the proprietress was very friendly, and they did have a few unusual designs we did not see elsewhere.

They fortunately did not have the type of items I was looking for for myself, so just bought an appetizer set (same style as above, but common Tuscan design) for a friend. Then we went down the hill and I found an entire set of dinnerware and accessories at MOD that was what I wanted. Their prices at MOD were noticeably lower for the same types of items, but of course none were exactly the same.

My MOD shipment arrived over one month ago, just a few weeks after purchase. There were many more items in the shipment, and total cost of shipping, in a very sturdy crate, was 80 euros. My friend still had not received her gift, so I wrote to Fanny asking what was happening with the shipment. No response.

Then my friend got an email from a logistics company in Italy asking for her credit card info as they needed to charge her 165 euros for shipping her item. She found other, earlier ones in her spam folder.

I of course told her to ignore the emails and wrote to the company myself, explaining I had already paid 130 euros to Fanny for shipping, and also wrote to Fanny asking again where the shipment was.

Finally heard from both companies that everything was cleared and the shipment was given to FEDEX, 2 months after I ordered it. I'll mention that common design again.

As this appetizer set was the first ceramic item I had ordered to be shipped, I had no comparison for prices. The proprietress said she usually charged 125 euros, but would I mind 5 more as there might be some fluctuations. Sure. So, I paid 130 euros, another company tried to get another 165 euros, and the place down the hill shipped three times as much for 2/3 the price.

At worst, it's scamming tourists. At best it's an incredibly unorganized factory and shipping arrangements.

So, if you see something you really really like, take it with you and ship it yourself.

Did not send item we ordered, would not answer our emails.
Oct 2015 • Couples
This was our second visit to the store in several years. We purchased 4 items and took pictures. We had multiple photos of our 4 pieces to be shipped. When they arrived one bowl was substituted for our chosen bowl - a large, intricate, expensive, lovely one. The bowl is nothing like the design we selected. The bowl sent looks like something out of a discount (very discount) store. We did not see anything similar in the store to this design and can't imagine where it came from. We emailed them with receipts, photos and all documentation which went unanswered, FOUR TIMES! We were not rude for the record and requested the correct bowl be sent to us. NO ANSWER. I do not recommend this place at all.

Took a month extra, but worth the wait
Oct 2015 • Couples
Met Luca at his store in Spello. We ordered some custom plates and bowls from him.
He said it should take about 8 weeks to complete the order and ship to California. It ended up taking 12 weeks. The quality and design were fantastic...worth the wait.

THE BEST!!! Don't believe the bad reviews!
Oct 2015 • Friends
These ceramics along with the Owner are of the utmost quality!!! Do not be deterred about the reviews on here that say otherwise.

Luca is a rare find and a delight to work with. The selection of patterns and style in his shop is beyond compare. A note to all the naysayers: This is Italy, not America...sometimes things take time, but they are worth waiting for!! That said, we ordered ceramics from him in Deruta on September 19th and picked them up in Spello on October 24th just as promised. He more than kept his word and went above and beyond to make sure our order was perfect. Our friends had ordered at least 24 pieces, so it was no small order to complete. Luca sits painting ceramics in his shop, not behind a computer...but he will respond to your email!!

Luca has two shops as noted above, by all means GO TO SPELLO not Deruta!! It is one of the loveliest hill towns in Umbria and very near some other great sights. His shop has all the same patterns as the Deruta one. The shop is located right off the main street (Via Cavour) and across from the Domiziano ceramics shop. (Very contemporary stuff at Domiziano and one of his friends owns it so he will happily show you around that shop too...)

And here's the best part: Luca will arrange for you to have a lunch and wine pairing at a fabulous enoteca with Roberto at Enoteca Properzio just down the street! Luca even sat with us at lunch. We (including our young children) were treated like friends and had a fabulous day in Spello!!!
