Wonderful place, amazes as soon as anyone spots it standing high on the hill. From the top, you can have an amazing view for several kilometers... However, the castle and palace are now ruins and are not being explored at all. Both the castle and the palace are simply closed and practically no information about the place is visible. I... More

Already the ride with the car to the top is worth it. Cute little village to walk through while you walking up towards the castle. So much of the castle that is still intact, feels like going back in time and then the 360 degrees view which is just breathtaking!! If you feel hungry, you can walk back down and... More

Almost scary hairpin roads on the way up but oh so worth the views! Amazing old world with the church, castle and working village at the top of the mountain. The size of the church, the crypts, historic hotel, cafes and more lend to a very authentic experience of village life. Exploring the castle takes you back further in time... More

Built on top of a mountain commanding a 360 vista this 13th Century castle is in a great state of preservation although completely open to the elements and public. It is a steep climb or a precarious drive to the top were surprisingly there is ample car parking and manicured walkways leading to a garden plateau with walls commanding a panoramic... Lovely views and a well preserved ruined castle. The paths are well maintained and although I walked up from the Pousada within the walled town, where vehicular access is limited, it is possible to park cars just below the castle if you follow directions..

As well as Portugal, that castle has a beautifull view from the top. The Castle, is right on the montain top and it's free. Nearby, you can taste medieval wines! Yes...medieval! Its just selled there! Not expensive!

Great views make the very hot walk up from the village worth while, no entry fee but not a great deal of information either, you can stroll around the grounds but there was no access to the inside of any of the buildings.
