A local told me that if you have not been to both the canyon & Palenque - you have not really been to Chiapas. Riding down the river, looking up at the steep cliffs, rock walls and birds was absolutely beautiful. Clearly the tour companies...More

It’s a beautiful place with so much wildlife. I was disappointed, especially because it’s a National Park that there was so much plastic rubbish. There needs to be a clean up of the river. The rubbish seems to collate in certain areas so it would...More

Went on a trip down the canyon, just the two of us, our guide and the boat captain. You are best to sit at the back as the bow of the boat blocks you seeing directly forward. You go under the old and new bridges...More

It was an absolutely beautiful landscape but so sad to see how people destroy the living place of wonderful creatures and plants. The boats speed up so fast that u can see the engines smoking..it stinks and is for sure not good for the environment....More

The views will bring a smile to your face and leave you with amazement. Truly unforgettable. I recommend take the boat tour and them driving to the summit for the view.

I was surprised to be on a speed boat but the 'driver' stopped whenever he saw something that might interest us - a couple of alligators & plenty of birds. The canyon is dramatic but the areas where rubbish collects are distressing. Surely it would...More

Beautiful scenery, high mountains and wildlife. Take a boat and enjoy, it ismworth while and the few explanantions of the boat captains are easily understood, even if one knows little spanish. Beware of the restaurants at the landing though. we had the most terrible lunch...More

My husband and I went on an organised tour from San Cristobal to the Canyon. It was straight forward. The canyon is beautiful but there is a lot of plastic waste in the water. The boat guides only speak Spanish which was difficult for us...More

We did a boat tour through the canyon on a speedboat. The tour guide was excellent. He could spot a one foot high monkey in the trees on the canyon walls while travelling at speed and travel over to the bank to get a closer...More

We had a great tour of Sumidero Canyon. Our guide Christian was very knowledgeable and helpful. The day we visited it rained but the boat ride was still great- we say crocs, iguanas, vultures and the terrain was beautiful- well worth seeing this!

I want to take a boat ride through the canyon and also go to the lookout points. My plan is to get the boat ride there at the dock (not a prepackaged tour) but then how would I go to the lookout points? I imagine that you must drive between each point? Are there buses that drive to each lookout point? Or can I walk it? Or perhaps rent a car? If I do rent a car, is there a good place to park while on the boat ride?

I would just take the boat ride. It's part of all the tours that run from SCC, it's cheap, it's easy and the views are amazing. The walls of the canyon are so high in places that I can't imagine that there's an easy way of... More
