An hours journey from San Cristobal, the road is steep and windy. It is quite a descent in altitude. The weather was much warmer in the valley than in the mountains. We thought that the journey through the canyon was quite pleasant, and the scenery...More

Two days ago we have made a boattrip through the Canon de Sumidero. We are very sorry to have done so. Each day tens of very fast going boats do nature much harm. The damage is visible. Not many animals left over. There is a...More

This is a National Park and it's beauty is just amazing. Being in such a deep canyon makes one to feel small and insignificant. It's a gorgeous place, except for the litter found along the river. As some reviewers have mentioned before is hard to...More

The boat ride was great but the Rubbish wasnt. We were shocked with all the rubbish. WE pulled over to see a Crocodile and all we could see was rubbish. Really makes you think why you pay the national park fee. That being said we...More

Canon del Sumidero is very nice place with beautiful nature. We took the trip from San Cristobal (price 200 pesos/person). We went to the village of Chiapa de Corso by minivan, it took us about 1hour and then we jumped to the boat. The boat...More

The beauty of the canyon is outstanding. The boat tour is a must to admire it. We saw several crocodiles, monkeys, and tropical birds. The guide was knowledgeable and nice. However, the trash floating around and infesting the sides of the canyon is terrible. Everyone...More

I had no idea what to experience when we began the 20 mile boat trip up the canyon. I had no idea that we would have 3000 foot cliffs towering above us. That we would have views that reminded me of Yosemite several times. That...More

To the question: it worthy to visit the canyon? The answer is it depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a ride on a boat and enjoy the views, probably yes. On the other hand, if you are looking for...More

The trip to Cañon del Sumidero was something I was looking forward to. The site itself is breathtaking from afar - however when you're actually in the water you realise that the whole place is a giant bin. It's densely packed with bottles everywhere and...More

I want to take a boat ride through the canyon and also go to the lookout points. My plan is to get the boat ride there at the dock (not a prepackaged tour) but then how would I go to the lookout points? I imagine that you must drive between each point? Are there buses that drive to each lookout point? Or can I walk it? Or perhaps rent a car? If I do rent a car, is there a good place to park while on the boat ride?

I would just take the boat ride. It's part of all the tours that run from SCC, it's cheap, it's easy and the views are amazing. The walls of the canyon are so high in places that I can't imagine that there's an easy way of... More
