If you’re a first time visitor in this city the panorama view of the Mekong and countryside is worth a visit ( 80 baht for foreigners/ 50 baht for Thais). There are some interesting artifacts/ antiques on the main floor. Unfortunately the area outside the tower grounds looks like a dump with its empty, dilapidated buildings and debris laying around.

Signs here tell you it's 360 degrees of pleasure. While I wouldn't go that far, it's definitely worth 50 baht to see the views and the small museum.

The base of the tower has an informative museum of local history and the indigenous peoples who settled the area which some may find interesting. Items are labeled in English. Good exercise walking the steps to the top, but one may catch one's breath at each level. Views of surrounding area are good. This is a nice stop for someone with a little time to kill and a little curiosity of the area. It's certainly not an item for a "bucket list", however.

Nice history and views of the area.
The plaza below appears to have karaoke and many clubs for night.
There is a nice market down the street; good sized.

The Mukdahan tower looks like something out of a 1940s sci-fi movie even though it was built in 1996. It has an interesting if rather simple display of the history of Mukdahan on the ground floor and more details about the many ethnic and tribal groups in the Mukdahan area on the first floor. A lift then takes you to the top observation tower which gives a good panoramic view over the area and the Mekong river in to Laos. At the very top in the dome is a silver Buddha but it was so hot up there that we couldn't stay for long although the rest of the tower is air conditioned. Well worth the effort for the view.

This tower is truly well over rated as I found out, Very untidy surrounding , litter building materials all over the road , For me I was a disappointing visit,
Not worth the time and effort of finding the place.

There is a small museum on the bottom floor. There are English descriptions so that's nice. The view is good: Mekong River, downtown Mukdahan, mountains and farmland. Mukdahan is a sleepy place so it's a good way to kill time.

So you're looking for things to do in Mukdahan when it's dead? Well the tower should quite happily kill an hour of your day... Some attractive and well manicured gardens outside the front await your arrival. Another surprising feature is the temple shrine which is built into the dome above the viewing platform.

For 50 baht admission you will see great views of the town, neighbouring Savannakhet and the Mekong river from the viewing gallery, plus a fair bit of local culture thrown in for good measure. It reminded me of KL's Menara Tower, mini in comparison but overall good enough to pass the time :)

One final thing I will mention is that this is not the only place to get a great view of the area... Go up the elevators in the River City Hotel to get a better view of the two towns, river and the Friendship Bridge to the North.

There are displays on the bottom floor which tell history of the local area and this part is free. There are some English translations of displays, but not enough to really inform you of the details despite there being small binders in Thai. Even so, it is worth the visit. It costs 50 Bht to take the elevator to the top and there the signage is English is excellent (well, as excellent as it gets when someone used Google translate). There are maps and 180 degree view. Up another flight of stairs and there is a small temple. You can ring the bells on your way up. The view is worth it as well as information on some of the sites you can see in the area.
