We went on the boat tour from the bridge. Guide Henry was a nice guy but admitted to us as soon as we left the pier that we might not see any flamingos because most of them had already migrated north and þ the tide was also rising which didn't help our cause. We ended up seeing around 7 flamingos... More

Boat ride to see the flamingos. Line to pay is under organized. You need 6 people per boat so you need to get together with other people if you are not 6 before you pay. Thousands of flamingos in April. Amazing but yiu need a good camera to get good shots. You are too far away from them for your... More

We stayed at Hotel Xixim for two nights - 20 minutes from town of Celestun expressly to take a boat trip out and see the flamingos. We came into the little town, went down to the beach and were soon gathered up to wait for the next boat. The trip out was a bumpy one - fun for many -... More

The Riserva biologica de Celestun, a lagoon on the north coast of Yucatan, about 80km from Merida, is the breeding ground for thousands of pink flamingos, white pelicans, and numerous other forms of bird-life. The main season is January to March, but the 90-minute boat trip around the lagoon to see the swarms of flamingos, circling Bird Island where the... More

The flamingos are only there when sea level is low (check the sea level table in the internet - tabla de mareas - in Spanish ). The guys who sell you the tour "guarantee" there are hundreds of flamingos but that is not true. The best you can see is dozens of them when sea level is low. Also, there... More

We had access to a car so we took the 1 3/4 hour trip from Chixculub to Celestun. The roads were very good with little traffic. A small village about a 1/2 hour out of Celestun was a treat. Stone fences, small cottages with palapas roofs and friendly people gave this village a feeling of yesteryears. Just over the bridge... More

We decided to bus from Merida to Celestun at 10:00 am for 232 pesos return for two of us. As we didn't know what time we would be returning we bought the return in Celestun. The bus ride was interesting as we got to pass through several little towns on the way during the two hour bus ride. The bus... More

We were unsure if there would see flamigos. We went about 1pm and saw about 4000. What an awesome experience. No bargaining with boat owners. Everything now goes through ticket office. We waited about 10 mins for 3 others to join us costing each $318mx pesos. $16us. And our boat driver spoke English Yay! We also saw lots of other... More

took second class bus from Noreste terminal in Merida for about 4 bucks. When you come into Celestun ask driver to stop on the west side of the bridge and walk over to the boats. You don't go into the gulf this way, but it's faster to the flamingoes. There were 4 of us in the boat with our guide... More
