We saw lots of different birds and at least 50 flamingos. We were also lucky to see twi crocodiles in the cenote in the mangrove. The only downside is the price, being 500 pesos per person. I thought it would be a fixed price per boat so we could split it with other tourists, but they changed it to a fixed price per person. Though, it was worth it.

All I can say is WOW! WOW! WOW! Our captain, unfortunately I can't remember his name, was absolutely GREAT! His 20+ years if experience really shown through.
Knowledgable, experienced and very informative.
Language could have been a problem, but thankfully mu daughter-in-law speaks Spanish, so we had a great time. There were thousands of Flamingos gathered.
Between all of us, we easily took over 100 photos and videos.
The Mangrove forest portion of the tour was also spectacular.
At only 300 Pesos for the 1-1/2 hr tour it is a BARGAIN for sure.

The lake is pink because of all the flamingos and it was spectaxular to see it. But the tour itself its crazy expensive for 1 hour boat ride. Also, the system "go there and wait for people to join" it is abut tricky. The boat is for 8 people, but they will only take 6.

The boat ride was nice. We saw hundreds of flamingos (but the boat does not go very close to them so bring a camera with good focus lens). Saw a few crocodiles too in the mangroves. What we did not like was the way tickets are sold (1900 pesos for the boat, is cheaper if you form a bigger group but we were not allowed to bring more than 6 people while some groups could and the boats are big enough for more...) and most of the guides speak only spanish.

We have been on a boat tour with am AWFUL GUIDE!!! Do NOT travel with this guide! His name is VICTOR. 1. He didn't bring us close to flamingos. Everybody else was close - we were very far!! 2. He gave us 10 minutes there - and headed off before even warning us that we are leaving and are not going to see any more flamingos. 3. He STOLE our friend's sunglasses!!!!!! 🤬🤬🤬 (We left the boat at the swimming point - and while we were away, he stole the sunglasses from the baby stroller, that we left at the boat). Disgusting!!! Spoiled whole impression! 😭😭😭
I attach his picture. Victor, if you read this: I'm sure that this will come back to you.

We took the Oriente bus from Merida. It takes 2.5hrs and get off at the bridge to avoid the 20 minutes walk back from town. The driver will know that you wish to get off. I think buses go approx. every hour subject to change!
Boat cost is 1800peso for up to 6 people in a boat. This is important. DO NOT buy your boat until you have decided how many people you will have. People before us bought the boat and then tried to share with us, they were told 'no, you have 3 people'. We bought a boat having agreed with 3 German girls that we would share so we could share the cost 5 ways.
The trip lasts about 75mins and takes in the stunning flamingos, pelicans and lots of other birds plus a trip through the mangroves to a fresh water spring. It is stunning and expensive but worth it.

The flamingoes are amazingly beautiful and exciting to watch. Our guide seemed knowledgeable but spoke no English. We got the gist but I’m sure missed interesting details. Here’s the trick: The boat launches for 1800 pesos (about $88). What they don’t make clear is that you can join up with others and fill the boat (which seats 10) for the same price, or about $9 per person. In our case, they offered a “tour privado,” and we didn’t realize until later that we could have saved some money. In any case, for the price, the tour was very brief. It’s a little over an hour in all, but maybe 20 minutes with actual flamingoes. If you drive through the port, you’ll come to a fork in the road. If you go to the right — and it’s a bad road, so be advised, especially if you’re in a rental car — and drive down the side of the lagoon, you’ll come to several points where you can see flamingoes for free. This will only work in the morning, especially if the tide is low. When the sun gets really hot in the early afternoon, the birds go elsewhere.

Stunning! Spectacular! Our group of 17 decided to take this tour on a Monday. We were the only people there in September. Snacks, water, soda and bug spray are for sale which you can take on the water. We broke off into three boats, 7 to a boat. Each boat had a canopy but being on the water was cooling. I don't remember how long the tour actually was but at least an hour to an hour and a half. Beware, the guides only speak spanish. We definitely saw many flamingos and the guides were extremely knowledgeable about the reserve. We hopped off the boat and walked to a lagoon where we saw the most flamingos. Take your bug spray as the mosquitoes are relentless. Even spray your clothes, not just your bare skin. We spent a good amount of time taking photos, then got back on the boat and raced to the other end of the waterway to walk along a small boardwalk in the water. Good for pictures. I highly recommend this tour. I think the price was around $15 per person, maybe a bit less. Totally worth it.

My Celesun tour (supposedly English/Spanish was almost entirely in Spanish. Guide paid little attention to my needs.

They say the best time is Nov.-April. We went in January and there were plenty. There are a LOT of other birds as well, a cenote you can swim in and if you are lucky, crocodiles. If you take one of the tour boats and you don't have enough people to fill the boat with your group, look for others to join you. They charge according to the amount of people in the boat and it can be very expensive, for example, if there's only two or three people. This trip was one of the highlights of vacation for me.

Hola, estoy en Celestún, me pueden contar cuánto vale un recorrido mañana muy temprano para ver aves y recorrer el manglar? Con un buen guía u ornitologo preferiblemente.
Gracias
