Firstly, this is not the monastery (there is absolutely nothing to see at the Ritigala Monastery), it is the Ritigala Archaeological Site that you should be aiming for. Secondly, don’t take the Google Map route. We Google Mapped and travelled 15 km down the Anuradhapura...More

This is a special place---a group of ruins with a "jungle feel." It is off the beaten path and does not receive the volume of visitors other sites experience. The entry fee is much less than other cultural sites (~300 rps), and the site, itself,...More

Me and my girlfriend did this beautiful walk solo without a guide, it was one of the most breathtaking treks I did my whole time in Sri Lanka. Lush jungle, not too tiring but with some exciting elements. Easy and very memorable.

Lush and green. Almost magical. Not much to see apart from the old ruins of the monastery. However it's a different kind of experience. Pay this place a visit if you are around the area.

When we were there there was no admission (august 2016). There is a donation box, we put some money there. They anyway need the place running.
