About
The home of the former Bishopric of Egara, in the Churches of Sant Pere in Terrassa, is an exceptional architectural ensemble in Europe. Founded in the middle of the 5th century, La Seu d'Egara makes it possible to travel back in time to the end of the Roman Empire and the first centuries of Christianity. The precincts preserve some exceptional architectural and artistic items: Iberian and Roman remains, a funerary church (Sant Miquel), Egara Cathedral, etc. The Churches of Sant Pere and Santa Maria are also one of the finest Catalan Romanesque ensembles and host an excellent collection of 15th century Gothic altarpieces. Located in the Parc de Vallparadis, they offer visitors a culture and tourism centre equipped with videos which accompany the tour of fifteen centuries of history through the most distant roots of Christianity and European art and culture.

At 30 km away form Barcelona you’ll travel to the XI century. A 3 romanesque church ensemble, with very good historical explanations and very well keeped.

Set in the lovely Parc Vallparadis, these 3 Romanesque churches built close together are called The Seu d'Egara, or The See of Egara. In Romanesque times they were a bishopric for the town of Egara, now known as Terrassa. These fairly small, well-preserved churches not only have some remnant of Byzantine frescoes, but they were constructed on top of Roman ruins. In several parts of the complex the ground has been excavated to show the Roman ruins and glassed over so that you can be walking through the Romanesque building and looking directly down into the Roman one. A film explaining the complex is shown in English, Spanish, and Catalan. Complete the afternoon with a visit to the nearby castle and a stroll through the well-landscaped and inviting Parc Vallparadis.

Set of three little church buildings that are in excellent shape. There is also a museum where we listened to a short video that outlined the history of the site (in English). The museum is also right on top of the excavation of some of the ruins including waterways, and I think burial grounds. Don't miss the views from the deck on the top floor of the museum. Great views of the site including the brick work in the courtyard where you can see where others are buried. The churches are not specatular by European cathedral standards but are well taken care of and great to see. Amazing to see something so old so well preserved (my wife says that about me!)

La Seu d'Ègara is a medieval set that is really worth seeing. You will find very good explenations of its interesting points in the museum shop before you visit it, but what I wouls like to underline is the fact that this visit would be interesting regardless of weather conditions. If you are there in a rainy day, do not worry. Just enjoy the fantastic reflection of the monuments in moist soil.

The religious complex based on three different churches is well preserved and integrated nowadays into the city of Terrassa near Vallparadís Park. The monument is over thousand years and it's one of the greatest buildings of the romanic style in Europe. Nice to visit at night and listen carefully the guide's visit.

This cluster of romanic and pre-romanic church buildings (one of which is still a parish church and one serves as an intimate concert venue, particularly impressive for period music) is well worth a visit and guided tour. The architects who assisted with this project did an extraordinary job.

It is a unique set due to its age, it is not the only one in the world. And for its good conservation. You don't have to be an art expert to appreciate molt.
