Daikanbo gives a good panoramic view of the town, especially beautiful on a clear day, sunset and even when the clouds descends, covering the town. I have got a fairly clear day and the view was good. The main carpark closes at 5pm and you will have limited parking space outside of the main parking lots. Be sure to be... More

Aim to go there during sunset . The view of the mountains against the changing light colours made good photo shots. With mt aso closed, this may well be the nearest you can get to it. Drive up is rather windy but the view is worth it.

Absolutely impressive views over the entire Aso area, including the active volcano. The drive up the mountain is a joy in itself, as the mountains are very steep and surprisingly covered in forest.

I'm really surprised this place is rated No. 1. To be fair the view is nice but I think on the way up to Mt Aso there are many more better view than this. If you really want to have a feel how amazing this caldera is go to Mt Aso instead. Even though the top part is closed due... More

Luckily we went on a sunny day, as it truly transformed the fields of yellow grass into something spectacular! It was a wonderful view, but the journey to get there was half the experience. I'd definitely recommend driving there yourself, as it allows you to take many stops and view the area from many different angles. We made 3 different... More

If you have a clear day this is a spectacular view to see the caldera. No picture can ever capture the magnitude of this sight.

You can take this tour bus at JR Aso station. There are two operations in a day until January 31,2017, at 10:15 and 14:00. After the earthquake JR trains between Kumamoto station and Higoozu station are closed, so take a bus named Yamabikogo which is a bus from JR Kumamoto station to Oita via JR Higoozu station.

If you want to see all of Aso from a high point...go here! You will need a rental car to get here. Make sure you include this point in your tour of Aso.
