About
This massive, mountainous national park in southern Patagonia is known for its scenic glaciers, beautiful lakes, lush forests, and the three iconic granite peaks of Paine Massif. It is a great place for hiking, too. Go on a day hike, or embark on a multi-day adventure on the W and O Treks to fully soak in the beauty of this remote natural wonder. Book any overnight campsites, lodges or refugios in advance, or sign up for a guided tour which typically covers accommodation.
September to May are the best months to visit—December to February is especially great as there are up to 17 hours of daylight.

- Martin PPerth, United Kingdom184 contributionsStunning vistas so worth the visitTorres del Paine is a magical area to explore. We were there for 2 days hopefully to see it's 2 major attractions - the 3 towers and the 2 horns (cuernos del Paine). On the way to these attractions you pass by many viewpoints so have your camera close by you. The blue of the lakes is so vibrant due to the mineral glaciation brought down by the water. You friends will think you will have 'enhanced the colour' - it is so blue. Hikes can be easy moderate or difficult. You have to decide how fit you are and how long you wish to be walking for. We were in a small group (6) with a guide and were pleased that we did not have to consult maps. That was taken care for us. We were also fortunate that the sun was shining on both days making it more special. You could not of hoped to see the tops of the Towers and Horns in any better weather conditions. A terrific way to end our 5 week holiday to South America, Antartica and the Falklands.Visited December 2022Written 8 January 2023

Lots of places to walk, trek, hike, explore, take pictures. No wonder it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.Visited March 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 January 2023
- LarryCupertino, California6 contributionsVery beautify place with good lakes and mountainsWe spent two nights there and we drove 5 hours there from El Calafate. The road inside the park is a little bumpy with gravel road. The weather was not stable in December with lot of rains. You shall allocate 2-3 days minimum and hopefully to get one whole day with good weather for an 8 hour day hike to see the peak. There are longer hiking trips that you can easily spend 5-10 days there. From the cost perspective, it is more expensive on Chile side than Argentina's El Chaten due to currency difference.Visited December 2022Written 18 January 2023
- Invictus1867225 contributionsNot rental car friendlyThe views and hikes are world class as has been stated many times. The roads are horrid. Jagged rocks, boulders, washboard, potholes, uneven surface transitions. Rental car suffered a blown tire. The bus and tour van drivers would just prefer to run over you than share the road.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 January 2023
- jose cWilliston, Florida38 contributionsAmazingJaw dropping views all over the park. It’s incredible how beautiful this park is and it is truly one of a kind.we rented a car and wish we had rented a 4x4. We had an SUV but cars were passing us left and right at much higher speeds. The roads are not paved and bumpy as all heck if you don’t have a 4x4 equipped vehicle. Overall, the park is simply spectacular. Driving around the park’s outer edges we felt like we were the only ones at the park. The views are stunning. The grey glacier tour is awesome as is the Mirador Cuernos hike. Saw quite a few guanacos too. One of the most beautiful places on the globe, for sureVisited March 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 March 2023
- Darren RConnecticut355 contributionsTorres Del Paine vs El Chelten / El CalafateTorries del Paine was amazing. Of course, so was the Argentine side. I think the choice of which option in Patagonia is fairly obvious, depending on what you want to do. • If you want a multi-day hike, go to Torres. • If you want to stay in town in your own hotel room and still do extraordinary day hikes, go to the Argentinian side. If you are on a month plus trip, obviously seeing both makes sense. If you are on a typical American’s two week trip, use the precious time seeing other parts of those two amazing countries. Normally, the biggest negative to a multi-day hike is carrying pounds of food, water and camping equipment. The W-Trek has solved that. Clean water is available frequently along the trail. Food can be provided at the refugios. The refugio set up also means you don’t need to carry a tent and sleeping bag. You even have the option of sleeping in their tents that are already made up for you. So if you’ve ever considered through hiking, this is absolutely the place to start. Getting in and out of Torres is a bit of a pain. There are hotels close by that offer shuttle buses over the dirt roads. But that puts you on their schedule. In El Chelten, the two best hikes start right from the edge of town. I’d much rather start when I choose to and walk right back to it (or a bar along the way) when I complete the hike. Also, while the Grey Glacier is great, the Perito Moreno boardwalk system and frequent calving make it much better. Both offer kayaking and glacier hikes.Visited March 2023Written 25 March 2023

The total excursion time was around 11 hours since it involved a plane ride and a long bus ride, which was a very scenic drive. Once we arrived, the park was simply amazing from the minute we entered. As we traveled done the road there were mountains on both sides of us. We also saw much wildlife. As we got closer, we began to see the beautiful lakes and several glaciers. The highlight was viewing the granite peaks of Paine Massif. There were also some wildlife present in this area as well. We could have spent more time here. I would recommend coming to Torres and allowing at least a couple of days. There is lodging in the park, and they offer tours.Visited January 2023Written 25 May 2023

As we hoped to see sunrise of the Towers of Paine, we stayed at hotel Refugio Chileno for one night. It took about 2-hour hiking from the parking place to the hotel. It was a cold and raining day. Next day at 4 am, we started the 4-mile hiking to Towers of Paine. This was a hard hiking and took almost 2 hours to reach. Fortunately we had a sunny morning and captured the beautiful and magical views of Towers of Paine in the morning glows. Truly breathtaking. At 8 am, it started to rain and the Towers of Paine was covered by cloud. So whether you can see the beauty of Powers of Paine really depends on the weather. Anyway this is a place one should visit.Visited March 2023Written 21 July 2023

Exquisite landscape, hiking and wildlife. Stayed at Las Torres which is basic but comfortable. Food, however, was pretty poor. Then again, I wasn't on a foodie trip.

I also came here with a tour from the cruise ship. It was more expensive but was well worth the trip. There was a plane ride and bus tour from the ship. The scenery is gorgeous, the lake a beautiful blue. There were guanacos and other wildlife.
I’ve been all over the world. This place stands out as one of my favorites.
I do think weather may be a factor in what you get to see.

The park is beautiful.. highly recommend taking a scenic tour so you can see the main parts and if you decide to do the famous hike to the base of the towers just be aware that it is INTENSE. You must be in good physical condition and be aware that coming down the mountain is not easier than climbing up. If you have a clear day you will get absolutely beautiful pictures. Have fun!

It breaks my heart to give such a low rating to a place I have always dreamt of traveling to... and once I did, it was disappointing from every possible perspective.
I can mention dozens of more scenic places in Patagonia with less "gringo branding", and much better organized. This place just lacks a bit of soul to live to the alleged reputation.

Hi,
We are planning a trip towards the end of May and will be staying in the park for about 4-5 days. We are planning to do a day trip to Base of Torres Del Paine and certain websites (including our accommodation) mentioned that day hikes in the park are not possible without a guide but I have also read that this rule only applies to overnight hikes.
Does anybody know if which one is correct? :)
We were hoping to do smaller hikes as well and would be surprised if you needed a guide for every single walk.
Thanks!

For smaller hikes, take the O circuit, W circuit is the longer hike. We had a local guide Sebastian who works at Hotel Las Torres (the hotel is inside the National Park can be reached at phone number 56 61 363636). Seb is very knowledgeable and patient with us during the hike, which makes the hike fun, and smart hiking. Feel free to reach out to him. Hope this helps

There’s no real transport in the park apart from the scheduled busses back to Puerto Natales. Your hotel may be able to arrange transfers within the park, but these likely need to be pre-arranged.

Is there a place to store suitcases when you enter the national park?
JohnVanDam
Amsterdam, The Netherlands151 contributions
To my knowledge, not at the actual entrance to the park. It is possible to store suitcases, or more commonly backpacks, at the various campings. However, I imagine if you were staying at one of the upmarket hotels or lodges, you could probably arrange to have them meet to you & take care of any excess left luggage for you

Hi - does anyone have any information on whether Santiago to Puerto Natales flights are likely to resume in late 2020 into 2021?
We have our entire trip booked in February/March 2021, and previously we flew from Santiago to Puerto Natales, but can’t find the flights.
Is Puerto Natales airport actually closed totally?

Hey All,
So my dad is turning 60 this year and I surprised him with a 2 week back packing trip (O Trek / Fitz Roy, etc.) back in January.... planning to travel first two weeks of December 2020. Obviously made plans / bought plane tickets before COVID rocked the world... now I'm scratching my head wondering if I should continue planning / attempting to make reservations for our trip or be more realistic and move this trip to 2021 when times are more certain? ANY guidance or input would be appreciated, stay safe & healthy everyone.
Best,

Hi - my wife and I did the trip in February and March this year just prior to covid.
We have booked almost the entire trip again for February and March 2021 - it is impossible to know the situation for sure, so we have booked everything we possibly can on a refundable basis.
It is incredible and by and large remote - so I am sure with sensible measures on the ferry crossings or buses, the rest of the time you would be very far apart from large populations of people!
